I finally decided "screw it" and just tried to write what made sense. This chapter is pretty light on sex (and I had to sort of retcon the very ending of the last chapter as a result) but progresses the story where it needs to go so ultimately it's necessary. Thanks for the patience and support, next chapter will be quicker AND have more fun action.

I paused in confusion, “Excited to have dinner with us?”

“Alright… see you soon,” she said.

Carly started to stand up when there was another knock on the door. Chloe looked almost panicked as she looked out the glass by the side of the door and realized there was no immediate escape. To her credit, she managed to pull herself together and stand up straight. “Fine… let’s get this fucking bullshit shitty ass dinner over with, okay?”
Her father started to say something but Sasha was already opening the door. And that’s when I got the second biggest surprise of that night.

“Okay… okay… what in the he…,” the sheriff started then looked at the pastor, “Sorry… what in the heckfire is going on, Jay?”
Eezee stepped over and said, “Dad, you remember me telling you about the trouble we had at the party. And the guy who slipped that girl that drug?”
“Yeah,” he said and both he and the sheriff shot me a look. I swear the sheriff reached for his sidearm that, thankfully, wasn’t there.
Fortunately, Eezee continued on, “No… no… he was the guy that broke it up and kept me from getting my aaaa… butt kicked.”
His Dad shot him a look but then turned to me, “You kept my son safe?”

The sheriff, of course, was still stuck on the crime, “Why were you at the party? I hope you reported the crime,” he said.
“Uhh… yes… we reported the crime and campus police took him away. Good riddance too. As for why I was at the party…,” I stumbled.

“And you are?” Andy asked.

The sheriff looked around, confused. I glanced over at the Pastor who was standing there impassively, a slight frown on his face but not nearly the look of disdain I’d expected. His wife was listening with a poker face that Doyle Brunson would have envied. “And are all of these other ladies your girlfriends, too?” The sheriff’s voice was forcefully non-judgemental.
“This is Kyrsten, my… uhmm.. My fiancee,” I said. That caused more eyebrows to raise. In for a penny, in for a pound, though. “This is Victoria, she’s my secretary,” I said.
“Though I prefer work wife,” she said, offering her hand to the befuddled adults in the room.
“And this is Sasha… she’s my ex-girlfriend.”
“Your ex-girlfriend lives with you and your wife… and… others,” said the Pastor in shocked confusion.
“She’s trying to make amends for past mistakes,” Kyrsten said from the table. She and Carly were now holding hands, looking surprisingly smug and unconcerned. I envied them for that. I was a nervous wreck. Fortunately, Louise’s arm squeezed mine and she looked at me, a twinkle in her eye and a reassuring smile on her glossy pink lips.
The pastor turned to his wife, clearly confused at what should be done given the circumstances. He was an understanding, open Christian but this was still a lot to handle. Victoria came to the rescue, however, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners, Pastor?”
The pastor looked at her, an odd expression crossing his face, “They that are whole have no need of the physician.”
Victoria smiled at his response and somehow the odd exchange gave the pastor confidence. He took his wife’s hand and they stepped to the table, “Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson. I… I was a little taken aback by all of this but your… uhmm… your Secretary,” he said, not able to bring himself to calling Victoria my work wife, “makes an excellent point.”
Esther added, “There’s also, ‘Let him who is without sin cast the first stone’.” The pastor looked at his wife and started to say something but then nodded in agreement.
“My better half is right, as usual.”
“I understand that,” I said, taking my place between Kyrsten and Carly who both stroked a shoulder of mine. Louise sat down next to Kyrsten and looked over to give me a smile as well.
“I don’t understand much,” the sheriff said, “But I know this… with a wife, a fiancee and a girlfriend, you’ve got to be pretty much always wrong about everything, right?”
Everyone laughed and Carly leaned into me, “It’s not as bad as you might think,” I said. I could’ve said, “They’re all submissive to me as long as I keep them happy,” but I thought it was too soon for THAT revelation. I noticed Leah sitting at the table next to her Mom and checked for Chloe and Eezee. They were still standing at the front door, whispering to each other. The sheriff caught my glance and looked up.

The Pastor still looked slightly shell shocked but rallied gamely. “Tell me again about this party?”
Eezee looked embarrassed and I jumped to his defense. “I was there with Louise’s roommate. Her date had bailed on her. I was mostly just trying to be a good friend and make sure she was safe.” The pastor nodded, seeming satisfied with that answer.
“He came and actually stayed to watch out for her,” Eezee said.
“Yeah, Eezee and I hung out and talked, he’s a good kid,” I said, looking at the pastor and his wife who beamed despite the praise coming from an admitted polygamist. I looked at Chloe and gave her a little wink before continuing, “He’s actually the reason nothing bad happened. He saw the guy slip something in her drink and he went with me to confront him,” I said.
Both of his parents looked at him and he flushed, “I’d have gotten my butt kicked if Jay hadn’t been there though. He was so cool, dad. You’d have been proud. He didn’t just beat the guy’s face in. He tried to defuse the situation and he only threw a punch when the guy came after me.”
The Pastor seemed to consider that before saying, “Well… I don’t condone violence, obviously…”
The Sheriff wasn’t going to equivocate, however, “He punched an attempted rapist, Pastor. That’s not violence. That’s justice. At least that’s what we call it in the South.”
Esther and Andy laughed and both nodded, “You’re right, Sheriff. Thank you, Jay Simpson,” she said, looking me in the eye and making me feel a little uncomfortable.
“I’m glad my big brother had a friend there to bail him out of trouble. Why were you watching that girl so carefully, bro?” Leah said, teasing her brother but giving Chloe a look. Chloe returned the look with daggers.
Eezee stumbled quickly, “I wasn’t… really,” he said, glancing at Chloe and then at me for help, “Jay came in with her and was keeping an eye on her… I was trying to be like a good wingman or something, you know?”
Chloe gave him a look, appeased at his answer, and smiled before turning back to Leah. The looks didn’t go unnoticed by anyone at the table. Carly cleared her throat, “Chloe, can you help me with something, real quick?”
“Sure, Mrs. Simpson,” she said, hopping up quickly and without complaint. An action that would have seemed unfathomable the first time I met her. Eezee’s eyes seemed glued to her ass and his mother gave him a swat before the Sheriff noticed.
We made small talk for a couple minutes before I looked at Leah and made a long, lingering bit of eye contact. “Excuse me… I need to use the restroom,” I said, pushing myself from the table.
I walked down the hall towards the restroom and waited. As expected, there’s a soft knock on the door and I open it. Leah is standing there practically panting, “This is what you wanted, right?” she said, lunging at me and kissing me without waiting for a response.
I grabbed her and spun her against the wall, holding her hips against the wall as I continued kissing her. After a few moments, I broke away and looked at her. “You need to fix things with Chloe,” I said.
“What… no… she’s such a bitch about everything she won’t let me explain.”
“Fine… tell me again what happened and I’ll explain it,” I said and placed my hand on the wall next to her. She didn’t notice, but I turned on the mic that would broadcast her words to the master bedroom upstairs.
Leah recounted the whole thing, explaining everything again. As she continued, she started crying, reliving the manipulation of the Sheriff’s boyfriend. And the betrayal she felt when her best friend wouldn’t listen. I felt bad, making her relive the whole thing again but she got through it and I offered her a tissue. “Thank you,” I said.
“You’ll make sure to clear things up with Chloe? I miss her.”
I nodded, “Everything will be fine.”
She nodded doubtfully and wiped her eyes. I opened the door and she seemed a little surprised as she stepped out, “I thought…” she said but then a bundle of blonde tumbled into her.
“Oh… Leah… I’m so sorry… I’m so, so, so sorry…,” Chloe was saying. I looked down the hall and Carly was following, having been unable to chase the running girl down the stairs after the earlier admonition. “I heard everything… I’m so sorry, Leah. I was a shit friend.”
The two girls quietly walked off together to console each other and Carly walked up to me, “You did a good thing today, Master.”
“I couldn’t have done it without you, Mrs. Simpson,” I said and gave Carly a kiss.
“We make a good team,” she said, rubbing her belly without realizing.
“We have lots of help. We’re a good team but we’re better all of us together,” I said.
She gave my arm a light punch, “See… now you’re getting it… the more the merrier!”
“Is that going to be the motto on my tombstone when you guys kill me with sex?” I asked.

We start back down the hallway, having been gone for almost ten minutes at this point when suddenly Leah and Chloe come back. They’re holding hands and looking like sudden best friends again.
“Mr. Simpson?” Chloe says.
“Uhh… yes?”
“Well… we were talking and… well… I told Leah about… you know… that thing you helped me with.”
I looked between the girls quickly, suddenly feeling uncomfortable and a little exposed, “Uhhh… okay.”
“Well… she’s had some bad experiences, right? And… and you were so good with me… so careful and gentle…” she said.
“What?” I asked.

The four of us returned to some shocked expressions. At first, I thought they were directed at me and I was worried that somehow the conversation in the hallway had traveled down. I realized a half second later it was because of the quick change in Leah and Chloe’s relationship.
“Are you two… friends again?” Esther asked.
They nodded, “We just needed to talk through some things… you know?” Chloe said, giving Leah a smile and nod of her head.
“Well that’s what I’ve been telling you for months now. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, you know,” Andy offered.
“The Simpsons just needed to know some sense into us,” Leah said, looking at me with a dangerously flirty look.
The sheriff added, “Looks like you guys are just generally helpful for the kids. I reckon we’re grateful for that.”
“Thanks, Sheriff,” I said. And with that, Victoria and Sasha brought the food in, serving everyone at the table. It was a wonderful meal. Sasha had never been a good cook but she’d been practicing and had gotten much better. Now with Victoria’s help, the meal tasted exquisite. We ate our meal, enjoying a pleasant, amiable experience with each other. I was surprised at how intelligent the good ‘ol boy sheriff was. And how worldly and casual the pastor was. Leah just rolled her eyes at the display but since Kyrsten and Carly were doing the same to me, there really was nowhere else to look.
Chloe and Eezee were talking quietly and Chloe kept trying to bring Leah into the conversation which helped some. Really it was a nice dinner, free of much friction or conflict. “This was a good idea, Carly.”
“Was it mine, Master? I don’t even remember now,” she said and we laughed.
“Jay… I don’t mean to pry… but she calls you, Master an awful lot,” Esther asked. “If it’s just a sex thing, please don’t tell me about it… but… like… why?” Her husband looked at her in shock, as if bringing up such a taboo subject at dinner might cause someone to burst into flames and be struck by lightning while the ground opened beneath them.
“Well… I’d be lying if I said it didn’t start out that way. But over time, it became a lot more,” I said, looking at Carly who held my arm.
She nodded and added, “Master… Jay… and I know it’s a game. And he knows when I use his name, that I’m speaking to him honestly. But… well… I rarely even do that anymore because we’re always honest with each other.”
The Pastor composed himself slightly and said, “Well… honesty is the best policy.”
I turn to the side and squeeze Kyrsten’s hand before leaning over to give her a soft, tender kiss. “That’s what Carly helped me realize. That keeping my heart confined to just her wasn’t the right path for us. Carly wants me to be happy with other women. Even if that means I fall in love with others.”
Esther nodded with some understanding while the Pastor still looked confused. Kyrsten said, “Everywhere else in life, you’re allowed to love more than one person. You have two kids. You love them both. You love both your parents and your brothers and sisters. And your congregation. But somehow marital, romantic love is limiting… we don’t want that.”
“And does this go for you too?” the Pastor asked.
“Carly and I have learned to love each other. But Jay is the only man we want. That may not be true for every woman that Jay falls in love with but, I suspect it will be for most of them. He’s wonderful. I don’t want anyone else,” Kyrsten said, staring into my eyes. For a moment, I could imagine her saying similar words wearing a beautiful white gown and proudly sliding a ring onto my finger. There was moisture at the edges of her eyes and I wiped it away before giving her another soft kiss.
Before the discussion could continue, however. The biggest surprise of the night happened. The unpleasant one. There was a knock on the door and I looked up to see some flashing blue and red lights out front. The Sheriff recognized them too. He looked at me in confusion then held up his hand, “Let me talk to them, Jay.”
He got up and went to the door, badge in hand. He opened it and I could see my other neighbor, the ADA standing there. “Sheriff,” she said.
“Ma’am… is everything alright?”
“I have a warrant for the arrest of Jay Simpson on charges of Bigamy,” she said, handing the piece of paper to the Sheriff as she and two deputies came in behind her.
“Oh, shit,” I said in unison with the Sheriff. What an awful ending to a nice dinner.

Glad you enjoyed it. This was a really fun (and difficult!) chapter to write. Good note on the skin color. I'll tweak that. As for the convo. They're biblical references. The part about the physician is a reference to Jesus and how he was criticized for hanging out with known sinners. His defense was that, like how a doctor generally hangs out with sick people, a preacher should be hanging out with those who need them the most (sinners). Esther then reminds the pastor (with another biblical reference) that they had their own wild youth with plenty of sinning and they shouldn't criticize. Hope that explains it.
I loved this chapter and glad to see you back again. The notice of Ester's husky voice (accidentally or not ?) and looping back Ezra into the main plot was nice. I am interested about the conversation that Victoria, Ester and the pastor had. Obviously it had significance, but I'll admit I didn't fully grasp it. Lastly it seems like there is a minor inconsistency in the beginning with Carly? lying with Jay. Wouldn't her ass be more yellow than pale white? I thought maybe it was any of the others but Sasha and Krysten are occupied with each other and Victoria is just watching.

Totally understand! And the main storyline should take priority. The great thing with the Jay and Carly story is that you’ve created deep and complex characters that I (and sure many others) have come to really care about.
That's my goal... I'd like to run it through her finding out that she is pregnant at least but it's an hours in the day restriction. Plus, it's surprisingly hard to go back and rewrite things from a different perspective and keep them mostly consistent (I sort of give myself an out to rewrite things because they're the recollections of two different people but it's still a lot of work). Don't get me wrong, it'll happen... just a question of when.

Quite the cliffhanger indeed. Eagerly awaiting the next chapter! I also enjoyed reading Carly’s version of the story. I think you should continue with her point of view at least through the seduction of Kyrsten.
I'm working on it now. Hopefully out before too long. I think most of my chapters end on minor cliffhangers (though this one is definitely bigger than most).

I didn't realize how much I was missing a regular "Jay and Carly" fix until I read this. :p I enjoyed the Ezra twist and the direction of the narrative!
