Chapter 4

Yeah... I just didn't know where to go with Divine Gift and sort of reworked it. I think there will likely be one or two other Divine X stories with lessons learned from Gift keeping the power restricted (I might even have God himself sort of acknowledge those restrictions at some point... I like humanized / anthropomorphized deities and I really enjoy writing this one). As for Poker, two things: 1) I HATE when people just blatantly screw up poker rules in stories (and it's almost a cliche on Lit). My personal pet peeve that just ruins stories for me is when someone "bets more than the other player has" and suddenly that person has to find a way to offer up more money or fold. Every time I find myself yelling at my screen saying, "THAT'S NOT HOW THAT WORKS DUMMY!". End of that rant though The other thing is that, yes, there's a rule set behind the scenes. You guys probably don't have quite enough to figure it out yet but the next two chapters should enable the people who get "on the right track" to start figuring some stuff out. I'm kind of inspired to write that story just for the game of people figuring out the rules/gimmicks ;) It also enables me to simply throw up a picture and a poll with hand choices and sort of 'crowd source' new characters which is fun too ;)

I thought the concept behind Divine Gift was hot as hell, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of your works past the first chapter or so. Essentially, I agree with your conclusion regarding the overpowered nature of the male protagonist. I have respect for your decision to gently wind down a project whose unrecoverable flaws make further expansion in that series very difficult. Freeing your time and mind up to deal with more workable projects is a wise thing to do and it's better for all of us, not least of which is because your readers get more kinky fun things to read! I find myself really enjoying your inclusion of poker-related technical details. It isn't that I'm a big poker fan - I'm neither particularly fascinated or repelled by poker. I think the technical details add an interesting element to the story. Phillip's unawareness of the exact rules of his poker superpower adds suspense/uncertainty/mystery. I'm definitely a sucker for trying to figure out fictional magic/technology system rules, so this appeals to me. Strategically, this uncertainty also frees you as the author to pursue the best apparent course of action as the story develops under your (metaphorical) pen. Also, the jargon overlap between poker and kinky sexy fun makes my inner 12 year old boy chuckle. "I had the nuts" indeed.
