I like the no ears part, but I'm too late π
I say keep the reindeer ears part, and I'll have to watch again to make sure I'm not making stuff up, but I think it picked up more breathy ear noms (that's a good thing) when the mic was turned so the toggle switches were facing the camera.

To answer the direction question I think I like sound better at the beginning with the ears backwards.

Im impartial, when I'm actually watching the video I prefer a little intro, but when I put vids like this in a playlist and am just listening to them in the background intros kinda kill the flow. Flip a coin.
