Boilerplate

Wew, that image on the left. Got a thing for leopard prints.

Adding to the subject of watermarks being intrusive: the less intrusive the watermark is, I believe that the odds of it being smudged out and removed decreases remarkably. While it's easy to remove a "humble" watermark, a symbolic watermark that is most preferable so that it's not obnoxious to have in view - if you want the work to be seen and spread out and viewed by many but still have the watermark there to tell people where it came from, I think it's simply better to keep it simple and base it on the trust that you post every image with instead of leading people into thinking that it's obnoxious and feel inclined to remove it. Sure, a considerably more obnoxious watermark can exist so that it makes it harder to keep details clean if you try to remove it with, say, photoshop, and it'll be pretty easy to spot that it's been manipulated, but in the end that's what people will be seeing instead of the original artwork: an intrusive logo/obnoxious-watermark or a manhandled piece of artwork. Keeping it small and simple could do yourself a greater favour than one that's just to say "I am trying to get more corporate and protect everything, and I will do it blatantly and to annoy you". One option is more sympathetic to the people you're trying to reach with it, than the other, is what I'm trying to say. In the end, what I say maybe shouldn't be representative for any majority or minority, but these are my speculations.

Hmm. Nothing inherently wrong with watermarking, really. It's easy to do it in a way that's really obtrusive, but with a little care it can be obvious and readable and still not harm the image much.
