🕑 Added 2020-08-10 10:01:01 +0000 UTCMan, I put a lot of effort into this dumb joke. It required up to date knowledge of the costumes in a game that isn't that popular anymore. AND it references a notoriously silly scene from a porno movie, taken out of context. If you haven't seen the latter, it is DEFINITELY a funny scene. (and kinda safe-ish for work too) No garuntees that link will work forever, but you can probably find it just googling "This isn't a beach, it's a bathtub."
Anyway. I thought it was funny. And it did well enough on twitter that it confirmed that enough other people thought it was funny too.
A note about the comedy. I could've had Mercy say the infamous quote that this scene is famous for. But I think that the first panel already references the meme ENOUGH so you don't really need to reinforce that. So it gave me leeway to play with the scenario in that, what does Pharah give this scene that you couldn't do with anyone else? The answer? Jet engines.

I still find it surprising and hilarious that the best porn scene ever filmed had no sex in it. I have no idea how that is even possible.

I actually forgot about the porn parody scene the comic references. But the comic works well enough that it was still enjoyable on it's own.

Honestly, the comedy works even without context, since it plays on the same theme (an overzealous and overprepared lifeguard in a situation that doesn't require one). If anything, it works better because panel two shows how Pharah's jet enjines actively make the situation worse, so there's an active punchline, as opposed to relying on an awkward silence as the punchline. Which is still funny, but not doesn't take advantage of the medium as much as this does here. Still, love the explanation, and I'm sure it helps others learn how to set up and tell their own comedic stories!
