I watched the original version in Japanese, and loved it. It's bittersweet but Jiji is there with her and that's what's important :) The ending made me smile, I thought it was perfect :)

it was the first time, yes! the part that got me really bad was the clear parallel between "losing your magic" and "artistic burnout". i was goneeeeeeeeee lmao

Kiki’s Delivery Service is such an underrated Ghibli film! I cry every time I watch the end sequence when she’s racing to catch Tombo. Was it your first time watching it?

Sad detail, jiji saying "meow" as if he can talk again at the end is a language specific thing. I think it's very likely jiji never talked, but when kiki was depressed she felt disconnected. Could also mean something about the pain of forcing one's self to act like an adult and shun childish things.
