Again - maybe I'm being subjective, but that "trauma-bonding" is an exposition rather than a real relationship; Takuma was mostly alone behind enemy lines on his own individual mission - the relationship wasn't written or fleshed out. She is not enough of an excuse for him to be "driven by revenge." But, Takuma projecting his guilt and pain from the war onto Kon (Root), and single mindedly pursuing them just cause he doesn't like them, makes more sense. It's not really revenge in that way, but a fixation - calling it revenge seems like a character misfire to me.

If you're talking about orochimaru he doesn't need motivation his motivation is anko as stated. If you're talking about kon then theres definitely plenty even if you ignore him killing his teammate he spent months behind enemy lines trauma bonding with.

Against Kon and Root, it's a combination of they attacked him and set back his training, plus that girl's death (cannot even remember her name, that's how much impact she made). The hate presumably is about him feeling guilty for her death. Guilt leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering I guess. I agree he has more reasons than, "Revenge!" (TM), because those make more sense to our understanding of his character. This revenge angle would be easier if the character who died was also someone who had a strong relationship to Takuma. It just seems to me that Takuma had been through too much, had too much of a cynical view of himself and the world, to all of a sudden be filled with righteous indignation because a Shinobi he kinda knew died in front of him (because of him? Not clear, he was fulfilling mission objectives at the time). I just don't think his character was prepared for this particular sub-plot, it feels out of character, and so feels jarring. I could be convinced if it is more like Takuma is selfishly fixated on Root cause they piss him off - there are other reasons for hate. Orochimaru hates alot of things but not for revenge/righteous indignation reasons. Takuma becoming more like Orochimaru, with a cold-hearted disdain for Root and a fixation, feels more in line with his character, than a Sasuke-like angle. ***EDIT - As I think about it, Takuma hating Root because he is fixating, and as a way to not feel guilty for random Shinobi's death, makes more sense than righteous indignation - if this particular motivation is interrogated a little bit, it would come out that Takuma's motivation is selfish and not really about vengeance for anyone but himself, than that makes total sense - he's kinda like Orochimaru in that way, which is fascinating. I'm definitely here for it in that case.

A relationship can be strained and also very close and meaningful. Also they're not fighting in the war anymore so the conflict they had is in the past and probably mostly forgotten about.

For clarification, are you talking about revenge against Kon (and ROOT) or Orochimaru? I am currently assuming you mean Kon (and ROOT) for which there are more reasons than just the girls death e.g. Kon ordering his death before he left on the war arc - her death just helped emphasise a main target for his hate imo.

The revenge angle still ain't doing it for me, he didn't know the girl that well ... Rather, we the readers didn't. I think it's a mistake to pursue this single mindedly, cause we as readers don't have emotional attachment to this plot like Sasuke and Itachi. Seriously dude, you didn't prepare the relationship and story well for that angle. If it was maruboshi or mikoto who died, then maybe. The girl was only important because we are told she is, not because we feel her important. This is a narrative mistake man, just saying.

"And you are a bitch" Thx for the chapter.

And yet their relationship was a bit strained and harsh... But maybe you are right. Just didn't seem from their previous interactions that Takuma would offer something as big as help in Orochimaru killing

Oblivious Bookwyrm

Bro, they fought together in a battle. Had each other’s backs, entrusted one another with their lives, and lost a comrade. They’re war buddies. Ain’t nothing thicker than that but family

Horan

Same, that was cruel :(

Horan

Oooh shape transformation is game changing with how it can modify jutsus. His earthdome could become spiky (imagine it shoot the spikes !) His water bulet denser and with a spin. A proto rasengan ? His water wave could become a water presure beam. His tentacles littéral power amor. Thanks for the chapters

Lazerate

A bit too personal conversation and out of the blue promise to help with killing Orochimaru imo... It didn't seem to me, that they are that close. Though I don't say that the dialogue is bad in any way, just my impression.

Oblivious Bookwyrm

That double update got me 😅
