Yeah, plus fusion mechanics are a nightmare to code, given all the different permutations. Still feels like they could give certain pokemon the mega-evalution treatment and come out with fusion stones or something. I was more saying "Uh, because science?" Is a perfectly valid explanation given how much other shit is possible in the pokemon universe.

Considering the pokemon universe has the ability to digitize living creatures, trade them across parallel universes, and even accidentally swapping minds with one in a teleportation accident, I'm surprised fusion and hybridization aren't already a thing in Canon.
