True enough! This piece was originally intended to be slightly tongue-in-cheek, though as I was working away, all kinda new origin stories started sparking off in my head. It may be they never end up as anything, as there's so much to do on other projects first, but one possible idea is that her "plant" form is triggered by inhaling some form of plant extract.
