Wait. Why didn't you put all the men outside the castle and have them charge the enemy army head on? According to season 8, its the perfect strategy. I was hoping jon would ambush dany and aegon like that.

He has the materials to craft a new wand now, so only R&D is left for him. The magic room in Winterfell is doubling as both a tomb and a core for the wards, but he cannot add anything without overcoming whatever's stopping him from casting anything but fire spells.

Will Jon make a wand eventually? The fight with NK is coming close & will there be more exploration of the magic room in Winterfell? A wand with core of dragon heartstring, dire wolf tail hair & wand wood from wierwood would be cool

That would complicate his following plans. Disposing of your strongest and most dangerous enemy leaves you a large room to manoeuvre when dealing with the rest.

Agree on the anticlimatic death to Daenerys, could’ve made a public execution and flaunted it to everyone.

Jon is very strong here. Spying with crows and executing an ambush is too effective not to do. As for Drogon, without Daenerys, he might have been largely out of the picture anyways. So his death is just beneficial in ingredients, as Jon notes, lol.

Not saying it was the wrong choice or wasn’t smart, just anticlimactic. The only thing that could stop Jon was ambushed on a hill and killed without a fight.

Jon would have definitely attempted another approach if not for the disappointment that was the visit to Casterly Rock. Cersei's behaviour was a wake-up call when he expected someone somewhat reasonable. He simply did not take any risk of tangling with Drogon and attacked first, getting the whole initiative in his favour. Now, the only thing that can stop Jon is gone, and the rest of his goals in the south are going to be approached differently.
