I think tracing photos, once you already have a solid foundation of anatomical knowledge, can help you build a library of how the human body actually moves; how PEOPLE actually move and emote.

Fun fact: for a lot of my recent work, I've been straight up tracing photos of myself to get the poses correct. I trace for the sketch and then build off of it with my own construction. I mostly do it to save time and keep things natural. I was worried it might start making me sloppy but no, I'm actually drastically improving. This pose is entirely from my own head, all from construction, no reference at all.
