Making adjustments, update 2/10

So, I've been busy with IRL happenings, I won't get too into it, but it's taken up some time away from me being able to sit in front of my computer and type to my heart's content. So as of today I'm sitting at 6473 lines of code. Still in-game in Saturday night, but well into that second branch I'd talked about last post. I'm not as far along as I'd like to be, and so I'm considering making the next release just contain everything that I have planned for Saturday.
I'm leaning heavily towards doing that because I'd be able to get things out very comfortably within the time frame I'd proposed before and I will have a much smaller hurdle when it comes to the amount of art I have to produce. (I'm already sitting on a pretty big list of to-do artwork and I'm not looking forward to that list getting any larger, tbh). Plus, with the amount of plot, branching, and overall content I'd be serving up in Saturday alone, I really think it won't be a small amount for you all to play through, especially since there's so much clue-finding etc in Saturday.
I hope that once this next update's out I'll be able to take a week away from the game, cause working alone on it daily, while fun and amazing and all that great stuff, is exhausting and I don't want to burn out on something I care so much about.
That all being said, I do feel really excited at the prospect of the next release feeling more manageable and within reach for me. Before it was feeling a bit daunting and was very dependent on sticking to a kinda-loose but still pretty aggressive schedule considering all the things I had to do. Thanks to everyone who's been supporting the game, whether it's been telling your friends about it, supporting on Patreon, leaving feedback, chatting with me, or chatting with others in the discord. It means the world to me that you guys care about this, so thank you so much, it keeps me going!
I hope you all understand the change I'm making is to accommodate for a timely release, and also for the longevity of the project as a whole (this damn game can't get finished if I'm not around to finish it lol).
And now a question from a patron that I thought I'd answer here:
Do you have a character that you relate to most or, at least, do you have character that you enjoy writing more than the others?
Funnily enough, when I write, I end up putting some aspect of myself in all my characters. I think I see myself VERY heavily in both Blair, Ruby and Demi. I know, they are all very different, personality-wise, but I think with Blair I kinda dump all my negative early-college qualities into her: emotional, immature, constantly trying to achieve an ideal set by men, and weirdly competitive with even her closest friends. I have grown from that era of my life, but there was a time where I wanted so badly to be wanted by others, and seen as worthy enough for attention, no matter the cost. Ruby was the flip-side, of my early college days, wild, funny, down for anything and not fully grasping the emotional weight of being sexually available to so many men online. For Demi: I think she’s very much who I am now, a little more secure in who I am, more direct, and very much a head for keeping things organized and things moving forward. Who do I like writing most? Jay. Why? Cause I’ve fallen in love with yet another fictional man, but the problem this time is I made him lol.

Hey Nairobi! Thank you so much 🥺 I'm really hoping this will be a better workflow, and I think everyone will benefit from it in the end! That's awesome that you're also on the Demi train! She wasn't a character I originally had planned for the game but when she showed up I was like, alright, I'll go wherever you take me lol. Glad that you pick up on the nuance of Blair, yes, she's a bad friend, but I didn't want her to be "flat", if that makes sense.

Hi again Pretty Ink! Just dropping by to tell you that you’re doing such amazing work! I think that’s a great idea, especially if it helps you in the long run. This game is such a gem, so I know me, a lot of others, and future fans would be sad if you overworked yourself! Anyway, I’m sure plenty of people of said similar things as well🥰 I think I relate the most to Demi personally. Her whole vibe and attitude is what I hope to come across as lol. I also simp for her too so that’s a bonus! Who I relate to the least is Blair, I don’t like her character so far lol sometimes she just feels like a bad friend to the MC a bit. However, I wouldn’t say she’s a bad character, she’s obviously going through some stuff and finding herself still and we as the players haven’t seen nearly enough to make a decisive opinion(to me anyway!)

Thank you ^^. And yes! Thats an awesome idea and something I will do instead of batch-creating art at the end of the writing. I'm sure my wrists will thank me in the end! And that's super interesting you have a similar experience as far as relatable characters go, I also went to two PWIs (high school and college) and those were very much more Blair years. Funny how the environment and the folks around you can change that. Glad to see a fellow Demi on the flip side though 😊

Whatever you can do to make the workload more sustainable for you sounds like a great idea to me! Alternating what work you do on a given day may also help prevent burnout. Thinking about my high school & college careers, I can relate to Blair in that wanted to be wanted way. Maintaining high self-esteem and confidence at two prominent PWIs was difficult as the cultural beauty standards were the complete opposite of what I was. On the flip side, those experiences helped me build resiliency and get me to a place where I can relate to Demi more in her self-assuredness.
