Going In Deep
🕑 Added 2018-06-29 21:17:16 +0000 UTC This month's painting! This fellow wants it so bad he can't even wait for it to get hard.Recently I made a few tweaks to how I shade things, and this is the first painting I've done with it at this sort of scale. Normally I don't draw things quite this close up. It was an interesting test of the methods, and it seemed to work fairly decently I think. This picture isn't without it's flaws, like all my pictures, but so far the colouring method has been working fairly well and I think this turned out pretty decent!
Would love to know what you think. :D

Sheath licks are awesome, great work!

There are some quirks to the way I colour that I still need to sort out- the occasional flat looking area has definitely been a side effect, but I should be able to nail that down after a while.

A vote well cast, I think! The only thing that stands out to me is the tongue-ing character's shoulder feels more two dimensional versus the very amazing three dimensional feel from the rest of the piece. It doesn't pull my eyes towards it, but since it's very centrally located, if I wind up looking at the area directly it does feel off slightly. An additional question; is the fur under the jaw black or is that shadow? You do gradient shadows so well it's a little jarring to see such a sharp transition, but I can understand it from the light source position. It's awesome seeing you offer these fringe scenarios up for vote; I think everyone is enjoying them! Thanks for your hard work, it came out tantalizingly!
