[WIP] Semi mechanical catbirb
🕑 Added 2021-04-16 05:54:49 +0000 UTCSomething I've been tinkering with a bit. The story of why is semi long and dumb so I'll save it for when I've got something more worth looking at and reading about, but for now have a look at a semi-mechanical catbirb.
The basic rigging is nearly done, though I still need to do the fiddly stuff like facial expressions, then once that's done it's on to painting/texturing/adding fur. It looks pretty bad right now in it's untextured plucked-chicken looking early stages, but so do all the models, like the bondage fox for example: https://www.patreon.com/posts/anyone-into-wip-46277754
...and I think they turned out alright in the end, so this one should as well. :P
Even though it's early days, I'd be curious to hear what you think so far, if you've got much to say!

Actually I've been thinking of un-mechanizing her completely, heh. The inspiration for the idea idea originally sprung from a highly mechanized critter, but I'm not actually a huge fan of that sort of thing so I kept cutting back and cutting back and I can't help but feel like I'll like it most if there's no machine bits at all. And funny you should mention it, I've also got an upright avian I've been toying with making, might follow this up with that one.

Ah, another avian, and in 3D no less. Looking forward to seeing her finished! (Looking forward to more of the upright variety as well.) Thinking about full mechanization? Seems popular these days.

Nearly! It uses all the same bones as the other limb, with one or two extra to enable some movement that the natural limb can't do, and the spacing between some of the bones is a little different. But for the most part it works just the same as the other limb.

Oh this looks very fun! You did an awesome job on the prosthetic, can it just use the same rigging as a regular body part?

Not at the moment, though that's an interesting idea to consider if I want to push the mechanical look further.

It’s hard to tell, but is one of her eyes artificial too? It might be a fun subtle detail just being a slightly different color/texture when viewed up close
