Death Drop Overhaul - Immersive Weapon Behavior on NPC Death

Today I’d like to introduce Death Drop Overhaul, a small side project designed as a subtle yet meaningful improvement to combat immersion in Skyrim, while also fixing a few long-standing issues.
The main goal of this mod is to address several unnatural behaviors related to weapon handling upon NPC death. In vanilla Skyrim, weapons always remain attached to the NPC’s skeleton, often resulting in visual glitches or odd collision behaviors such as corpses becoming unusually heavy or hard to move. Moreover, even if an NPC wasn’t in combat, their sheathed weapon would still fall to the ground upon death. This mod reworks those systems entirely, while also introducing a few additional, much-appreciated improvements.
What it does:
When an NPC dies, their weapon is now truly dropped into the world as a separate, physical, lootable object.
If the weapon was not drawn at the moment of death, it simply stays attached to the body on the hip or back, as you'd logically expect.
Dropped weapons remain virtually linked to the NPC's inventory and will be automatically cleaned up when the body despawns, preventing any risk of savebloat or persistent clutter.
If the NPC was in motion (attacking or moving) at the moment of death, the weapon will retain its momentum and can fall or be thrown dynamically.
No scripts, no plugins. Everything is handled via a lightweight DLL for maximum performance and compatibility.
This is not a large-scale system mod like some of my other ongoing projects, but I think you’ll find this added layer of immersion quite satisfying. It’s lightweight, stable, and integrates seamlessly into any load order. You can install or remove it at any time without worrying about your save or mod setup, since there is no ESP plugin involved.
Installation & Compatibility
Only one requirement: Address Library for SKSE Plugins.
The mod can be safely installed and uninstalled on existing saves and new games.

The mod is currently in beta, and while the core functionality is solid, some final polish is still needed. I also plan to include an INI file for basic configuration options.

If all goes well, the mod will likely be released on Nexus soon, given its focused scope.

Thanks! Actually, it was like that in Oblivion, but they chose to do things differently in Skyrim, probably to avoid having to deal with the multiple references it would generate.
