I enjoyed this reaction video, but your stress levels transformed this movie into a much more stressful movie than I'd remembered! Either that or I relate too much to it now, whereas when I first saw it I was a kid with no frame of reference, and in my teens and early twenties I didn't have as much empathy as I do now, so maybe I would have found it more stressful regardless. Either way, I'm glad you ultimately liked it by the end. =D

The reason why Steve Martin was talking funny in that one scene is because the guy who punched him out had picked him up by the balls. It's an old Hollywood gag that in comedies if a guy gets hit in the nuts his voice goes up several octaves. And Steve Martin didn't punch John Candy in the nuts after the car caught fire, he punched him in the gut. John Candy even made reference to it being how Houdini died. Anyway, I loved your reaction to this movie. I've been checking in to see if you've reacted to the next episode of Firefly yet, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw this. I guess Firefly can wait until next week.

I love this movie so much. I grew up in the 80s and used to the amount of cheese in these movies, but love it so much. Great transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas. As usual, looking forward to what comes next. Till then, I'll be here trying to Stay Golden.

Another John Hughes movie you should check out is Uncle Buck. John Candy is in it as well and Macaulay Culkin. The movie is hilarious and underrated.

This is the Thanksgiving masterpiece and honestly one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. We have had that trip from hell that we can laugh about later, but this is just the nth degree. If you are is game for more, for Candy I also love Uncle Buck and Summer Rental. For Martin, All of Me and Roxanne are great. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, that’s a credit card machine. It used triplicate forms containing “carbon” paper. Additionally, some businesses would call the credit card company and confirm your account was valid before finishing the transaction. It could take five minutes to use a credit card in some stores. Thankful I only witnessed this as a kid and didn’t have to use this system. (I’m Gen X.)

I was amazed to find out that the first cut of the movie was 3hrs long. They then cut it to 2 hours, but the studio insisted that it was still too long and wanted it cut down to 90 mins. I think it's just perfect the way it turned out. Also right at the end after the credits, his editor is still at the office! He still hasn't made a decision! :)

A couple more things: Del’s black eye was from one of the movie’s numerous cut scenes. The original cut was three hours, so more was actually cut from the movie than made the final cut. The scene with the highway patrolman went on longer, as the cop later revealed that they were actually in Wisconsin and had overshot Chicago, so Neal and Del got in a fight and Neal punched Del in the eye. It was later thought that they’d already been through enough and their friendship had been more solidified at their second motel the night before, so it was cut. Also, it was based on a true story of John Hughes having a plane from New York to Chicago rerouted to Wichita, and spending a hellish five days getting back to Chicago. Great reaction. It is pretty anxiety-inducing, and I usually have a hard time with those myself, but this one goes down so easy because it has such a good heart. Looking forward to Home Alone, and more John Hughes and John Candy. Cheers!
