Yeah you need to watch part 2 as its really not a sequel but the 2nd half of the movie.

My case for an IT chapter 2 reaction: Stephen King’s book intertwines two encounters with IT from the same group in two different timelines, and toggles back and forth between them at a pace where both the initial and ultimate defeat of Pennywise occur in the same telling. The movie separates the two stories as a chapter 1 and 2. There are some significant deviations from the original source material, especially in the second movie, but it is interesting to see how the losers’ first encounter with Pennywise significantly affected their lives after their time in Derry, Maine, and the significance of their return to defeat evil incarnate once and for all. I know the movie gets a lot of hate, and can see much of the criticism given to it, but even as nicely as the first movie wrapped things up for us, it is not the full story of the losers club vs Pennywise the clown, and I think it should be appreciated completely as the King of Horror himself intended! But that’s just my plea as a King fan 😂 love your reactions Nat!

I see your point. But I suspect that was more suited for kids growing up in the 50's. Here's my top wish. Bring back the Creature from the Black Lagoon attack! Just get the licensing deal from Universal and drive home the point that Pennywise can be whatever terrifies a kid the most without tricks or illusions. He literally transforms into your worst nightmare! But updated to the 80's, if they used Freddie Kruger right after a kid watches Friday the 13th......

I can't blame lots of people looking back fondly at the "original". Which it deserves for Tim Curry's performance alone! But that miniseries was originally broadcast and rated for television. Having read the book, I went into it knowing they just couldn't show all of King's horror. But, these adaptations continue to split the story in 2 parts!! Someday I would love to see a presentation (NETFLIX/HULU?) with both storylines blended as King saw it. (including the Creature from the Black Lagoon attack!!)

Really enjoyed your reaction to this Natalie! Holy eff, the original SCARED ME SO BAD as a kid. I say as a kid because I first watched It when I was a young boy at the age of 7 or so. Blame my parents. xD Anyway, yeah, FREAKED ME OUT! This version though is far less terrifying, I feel. Still good and worth watching, I just feel like I'd of enjoyed watching your reaction to the original more, maybe followed by this. Original still might give me nightmares, this one though not at all. One or two jump scares just doesn't cut it for me. Okay, I totally had to repatreonize myself for THIS reaction. I just think IT was the best film of that year, let alone best horror film. Maybe even the best of that year and the next 2 years. Also I wanted to watch this so much I'm doing it at 4am. The children at the end weren't alive like Beverly, Like Georgie, they were all dead. The first movie is only half of the book. Also, it appears that you missed the fact that all the adults were under IT's spell. They all pretend like it's not weird that all the children are disappearing and ignore or don't see anything weird, like Ben getting attacked.

Thanks for the great content as a couple of other people have pointed out already Stephen King has his own Universe like the MCU! All oh his books and shows plus all the stuff his kids are writing and producing seem to take place in the same universe, which is really crazy and confusing, with multiple versions of realities, I don't want to spoil anything for you but exploring Kings Multiverse is not for the faint of heart! Oh wait you probably already know that. But some of his works are not what you might expect from him as you have already learned with The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile. If you want to go deeper into Kings universe Castle Rock show on Hulu is an interesting place to consider continuing it is also King and J.J Abrams working together which is cool for SK geeks who all wanted a Dark Tower movie, they also have Lisey's Story on Apple Tv plus now as well. Whatever direction you venture is sure to be interesting.

Even when you're just screwing around, I love when you sing, NAT. :) A lot of people who didn't read the book don't realize the importance and necessity of fear when it comes to IT's feeding... his prey MUST be suitably terrified. The thing that Beverley feared the most was getting her period, which meant that she had become a woman which meant that it was open season for her father's predations... which is why they key to her terror was blood.

jump scares are like the McDonalds of horror. creepy is much more horrifying.

I think the TV movie suffers from to much nostalgia. I feel this is a little closer to the book.

If you watch it again look and listen to all the tv’s in the background. It’s the same show that’s on when Bauer stabs his dad in the neck and the host is telling the kids to play in sewers. Also in the Library, look in the background when Ben is reading about the kids that got killed back in the early 1900s, you can see Pennywise in the form of an old woman staring at him with her mouth open.

Hasn't been mentioned, but Eddie's mother keeping him sick was one of the big moments in the movie for me. The thought that she knew about Pennywise all along, and instead of trying to tell the kids about it, her best attempt at trying to keep her son safe was to poison him to keep him inside....

I remember watching the original IT movie home alone as a kid and it was so long ago, I was watching on VHS and it was a two tape movie, like Titanic or something. and that terrified the hell out of me! and the second tape was them as adults. so them making this a two part movie like Kill Bill or something made a lot of sense to me.

Oof, when she referred to The Cure as retro music 😢 I suppose it is to her, given that that song is older than her haha. But I stand by the statement that "Just Like Heaven" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded, it's what it sounds like to be in love. You don't even need to bring "The Dark Tower" into it to get connections,. Something like 20+ books or short stories are set in, or reference, Derry. Between Derry, Castle Rock and Randal Flagg the interconnection is more than just an "idea".

EASTER EGG for King fans. This was never in the movie or King's IT novel. BUT, what if Bill Denbrough and Beverly Marsh notice a man in town who looks very much out of place, played by James Franco. [11/22/63] btw this encounter wasn't in the HULU production either.

People hate on part 2 but I thought it was a lot of fun and that was what people did not like that it is less scary but the relationships between these characters are so wonderful don't you want to see what happens when they grow up? Part 1 is a better movie but part 2 makes me more emotional. I don't think you'll be upset if you watch it.

Yeah. It's just not that scary. And not as entertaining as Tim Curry's Pennywise. And it's funny that you guessed it was Portland, Maine. Almost all of Stephen King's books take place in Maine. If you want another non-scary Stephen King, since you did Shawshank and Green Mile, ya gotta put Stand By Me on a poll. One of my favorite movies.

The more I watch this movie the more I want to rewatch the 90’s version, Tim Curry is so much more haunting compared to this too cgi, jump scare heavy movie. Completely misses the mark in my opinion

Much like with the made-for-tv original, the first part is much, much better than the second. Part 2 is really unnecessary and not nearly as well done. It’s basically the same thing all over again but the kids are grown up now and the ending is completely underwhelming.

not entirely setting up for a sequel, the book switches between them as kids and them as adults but for the movie they just did part one as kids and part 2 as adults but its one complete story.

Lest you think that the sequel was contrived, this movie only covers the first half the book; It was always conceived as a two part movie. Also, Henry Bowers was more sadistic than can be shown on-screen. There's a scene that has always stuck with me with him in the woods and a discarded freezer. I won't say more, but it has haunted my mind ever since.

All the kid's coming-of-age stuff is great. All the monster stuff is like Evil Dead II, more laughable than scary. The effects are fun though, but very fake looking. I wish Chapter 2 would have been as good.

I liked the miniseries they did in the '90s, cheesiness and all. So I decided to read the book when I was a senior in high school. Yeeeeah..... I stopped reading the book once I got to "that part." People who read the book know exactly which part I am talking about. And people who have only seen the movie won't (unless they read about it), as it is 100% un-filmable.

There is an idea that many of the Stephen King stories are interconnected via his "Dark Tower" series. Pennywise may be from the Dark Tower's "Todash space" of incomprehensible monsters.

I mean of course that scene's not going to be adapted to TV/Film! This is an interesting cross section where you can see the clear distinction between what society is allowed to think/write about vs what we would find uncomfortable visually depicting. I'm all about letting writers put to paper any ideas that fit within the themes of their work, and his description of why it's in the book reads like a writer doing exactly that. The Horror/Dark Fantasy genre has always been a place where taboo themes are prevalent, just look at Clive Barker's work.

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 I've been waiting for this all week!!! You're pretty close on the concept of Pennywise(IT). He mainly just targets kids, and feeds on their fears. And the adults in the town are pretty much under Pennywise's spell. For me, there's not too many jump scares. However, no matter how many times I watch this movie I never can watch Georgie's death in the be. And Pennywise coming out of the film projector is one of my favorite scary moments. We really don't see Richie or Ben's home life, but from what we do see Bev has the worst home life. I won't say much about the book. Other that there's one moment that I'm so grateful that's not in the two movies & 1990 mini-series. I really hope that you watch & react to the sequel "IT: Chapter 2". No spoilers, but it ties up the story of the Losers Club and Pennywise. And it's got a great cast. 🎈 Have a great day today! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Interesting fact: There is a hugely inappropriate sex scene in the novel that is not part of the film. I won’t go into detail but here is a link regarding the content. I've always felt this was a good movie that lacked confidence in itself. I wish they'd kept some scares in the creepy area, similar to Haunting of Hill House could do, rather than resorting to big silly CGI monster jump scares to break the tension almost every single time. It's a good film, could have been better, it just had itself held back by the need for A Big Scare every single time. IT, the creature itself, is one of me favourite villains in fiction, I just think you could never adapt it to screen. It's too pervasive, too subtly seeped into every facet of the town in the books in a way I found fascinating. This film made a good effort to show that effect on the town, with the layers of Missing Child posters that just have a new one slapped on top each time, or the family car passing by the bully's abuse of Ben (though of course the silly balloon then appears in the back seat to really drive home the point, again, something or necessary in film than on page)
