This movie could be classified as "a bad movie we love". But I think we still would be ignoring the good stuff. There really isn't anything very sophisticated in the script, structure... But I disagree that it's just the action scenes that are good. There's something special there. The soundtrack, the setting, the camaraderie, the charm of cheesy love interests, the charisma of the characters, the pursuit of perfection, the humor, values such as loyalty to friends and respect for opponents. There's definitely something special there. And I hope to rewatch all of this here one day.

I'm only in 2 other communities outside of this one. But Top Gun is almost always at the bottom of the polls in those communities too. And I'll be honest, it's for good reason. It's one of those movies that had terrible writing/dialogue/plot but we gave it a pass in the 80's because the action sequences were ahead of it's time. You can't give it that pass anymore as it's so behind todays technology. So all you are left with is the terrible writing/dialogue/plot.

Top Gun was huge in the 80s. When it came out everyone raved about the flight scenes and the surround sound. I knew guys in the early 90s in the Air Force building Dolby 5.1 surround systems just for Top Gun on DVD. Now it all seems quaint but back then it was the quintessential 80s summer blockbuster. Even now it's still a fun ride!

Anybody with half a brain should know that those three films aren't connected. They just happen to be made by the same dude. lmao, with that type of logic someone would see that The Terminator was made by the same dude who made Avatar and then be disappointed that there aren't blue aliens in Terminator or cyborg killing machines in Avatar. Though, I don't like pressuring reactors to watch more films just because they're loosely connected. Not saying that I wouldn't enjoy them though.

This is my complaint. This is my issue. xD The satire in Robocop is excellent for sure! I'm more of a Terminator fan but that's me. The Terminator is hands down my all time favorite movie. I first watched it when I was incredibly young! Two or three, I believe. I remember seeing it then and getting a Terminator action figure (that I still have!!) and playing with that dude all throughout my childhood. I treasure that thing. xD <3 Anyway, er, yeah, Robocop's an excellent movie! The satire is excellent for it's time and still is today.

I'm with you. Though, I'm still stoked that we got her to react to The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Robocop is excellent (as long as you're wanting to watch the original film and not the new one) and worth seeing. I'm DEFINITELY more of a Terminator fan than Robocop and I am 100% on the boat that says Terminator would demolish Robocop if they went up against each other.

The so-called Cornetto Trilogy is a another good example of 3 movies that don't need to be watched together. All saying this does is make reactors shy away from them, thinking they actually need to watch all 3 to for story reasons, and so hurts the chances of any of them getting watched. These films aren't Lord of the Rings, you can watch any one of them, in any order, without affecting the other two.

Kind of, but definitely covered between dialog and flashbacks. It's pretty clear what everybody's feelings are concerning the previous movies events. If anything there are some iconic shots & scenes that are decades old meme-worthy viewing, but plot-wise I don't thing there's anything to miss.
