This movie is one of favorite Christmas movies as a kid and one of my favorite Christmas Carol movies. The other Christmas Carol version I like is the 1951 version. That was is dark. I'm sure other followers have told you that Disney+ for some reason cut out a musical scene from the movie. It was when Scrooge's fiancé Belle left him. Belle sings "When Love Is Gone." That's why at the end of the movie, Scrooge and Tiny Tim sing "The Love We Found."

So, I had dialed back my Patreon subscriptions during a financial lull in our household, planning to return things to normal once my new job was in full swing and I knew our budget... but as soon as I found out you were unfamiliar with A Muppet Christmas Carol I HAD to re-subscribe to see your full reaction. And THEN to find out you haven't seen ANY Muppet movie, that kinda blew my mind and was all the more reason to see how much sense this would make to you. (A lot of references that hinge on prior knowledge, but might work regardless.) Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays for you. Also, that last song works better in the version that includes the ex-fiance's song "The Love Is Gone."

Thanks for sharing this reaction. It was quite enjoyable watching you get to react to the muppets and Michael Caine's performance. There have been so many versions of this made into movies, but my favorite remains the 1938 version. The entire cast is just incredible in that movie. I think my favorite Michael Caine movie is Secondhand Lions. With all that said, I do typically watch the Muppets Christmas Carol every year since it came out, as it's just a fun movie.

I find it hard to believe that you have not seen other Muppet stuff. Then again I am reminded I am in my 50’s and you are not , sigh. Now I just feel old. And, don’t carry the turkey around, lol, Victorian London was not known for its refrigeration in any case. Watch the Muppet movie.

If you want to watch a completely different kind of Christmas movie with excellent visuals, amazing story telling, and great acting, then check out the epic fantasy and Arthurian legend "The Green Knight (2021)."

Disney haven't restored When Love is Gone to their version yet, which is a shame. It's worth looking up the scene seperately, it takes place during the breakup scene in the final Ghost of Christmas Past segment. The scene was cut because they thought it too much of a downer, but it adds a lot to Scrooge's character. They plan to restore the full movie on D+ soon, apparently the masters of the scene were lost prior to the HD revolution, but have since been found.

It's also the best-looking version as a good part of it was shot on location. Also, Scrooge's "grave" is still visible at St Chad's Church at Shrewsbury in England (https://www.charlesdickenspage.com/1984-carol-scrooge-grave-shrewsbury.html), similar to how the gravestone of Adrian Balboa (Rocky's wife) is still in place at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia: (https://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/45894).

70s kid here ('71 to be exact). Henson was as important to my development as Mr. Rogers. It broke my heart when he passed away so early. Frank Oz (EP of this film, voices of Ms Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Sam Eagle) was his right hand with the muppets. I love when non-muppett-people watch this movie! I hope you could see the artistry, care, and love for the source material this movie presents. I was 7 when this movie released and I thought the writing and dialogue were so elegant and magical, when, really, I was falling in love with the real quotes from Charles Dickens. I could also go on forever about what Jim Henson's work (just in general) did for my childhood...but that's a novella on its own!! Loved the watch! Thank you!

Oh nooooo, this is sending me into a spiral! My family are “Muppet’s Christmas Carol every Christmas Eve” people. Do I break tradition and watch it with Natalie first, trusting that being with my family will make the second viewing in one year still fun? Or do I wait until after, and risk being a tiny bit bored for Natalie’s reaction??

I do not know why it hits me so hard but this is the silliest movie that can bring me to tears. I love even the parts that are horribly stupid and I feel the parts that are hopelessly cheesy. I don't even like the Cristmas Carol too much, I think its boring. But Iove this movie. No clue why. Or maybe it is because to me it feels like they invested a lot of love making it? Anyway, I hope some people saw it for the first time due to this reaction and liked it just as much as I do.

The best version of A Christmas Carol is the 1951 version (otherwise known as Scrooge). The performance by Alistair Sim is sublime and the best version of Scrooge in any film/TV adaptation

Shame she didn't watch the version with the cut song restored (I don't know why Disney didn't make that the default version now on Disney Plus) - it makes the final song make so much more sense. Still the definitive film version of A Christmas Carol for me.

Two of my favorite childhood memories are watching the Muppet Show and my father reading A Christmas Carol to the family a chapter a night every December. I've always enjoyed how well this movie blended those two memories for me.
