During the reaction you said something about softball. Softball was definitely already going strong before the time of this movie. In fact Dottie, Kit, and the other women were playing softball, not baseball, in Oregon at the top of the 'flashback' part of the film. The first ever softball game is credited as being in 1887 and it morphed and changed until standardized rules were set in 1936, though older/other versions of the game are still played too.

I'm a first time subscriber on your patreon and I really enjoyed watching this along with you, Natalie. This watch along and your reactions was a lot of fun. This movie was one of my mom's favorites. I watched this all the time when I was a little kid. I'm a little surprised you found Tom Hanks' Jimmy Dugan character unlikeable lol. My mom found him very funny. She also loved Marla Hooch lol. Apparently, there is a debate on whether or not Dottie dropped the ball on purpose. Dottie did tell Ellen Sue to throw high ones at Kit. Maybe people should give Kit some credit that she finally won against Dottie. I really like your personality Natalie. You seem to have some knowledge in film like maybe studied at one time. I'm looking forward to your patreon.

So happy you watched this one Nat! Ever since I saw this when it came out it has been an all time fav of mine. You should check out Field of Dreams and Moneyball, both excellent films and well worth a watch.

Yep - she’s the first baseman for Racine, and in the scene where the beauty consultant lady is walking down the like (“What do you suggest?” “A lot of night games.” That scene) Tea is the person right before Kit.

Love your reaction to this. I knew some things would get you, even before hearing you have a little sister. After the telegram scene and it cut to Dottie crying in her room, I was saying, "Keep that tissue out, Natalie. Here comes Bob..." lol I also had forgotten (duhhh, derp) that you've lived in NY state. I'm only one state away and I've never been to Cooperstown (bucket list!). On that last play where Dottie dropped the ball, she HAD TO TAG Kit out - can't just touch the base/home plate on that play. Dottie tagged Kit but dropped the ball so it doesn't count. Was it intentional? ? ? ? And since Kit was the batter, that was an inside-the-park home run, which is even more rare than a triple play (3 outs in one play). Just going to once again suggest another baseball movie since it's about that time of year. THE SANDLOT is more comedic, yes, but basically just as heartwarming as this film. I think you'll fall in love with the kids (yeah, kids!) and the story too.

Great movie choice can't wait to watch the reaction. If you're looking for more good female led sports entertainment I highly recommend the TV show GLOW, it's 3 seasons with 10 episodes each, and exceptional. If you want more Lori Petty I recommend the movie Tank Girl (more of a cult classic then a great film, but a lot of fun to watch) EDIT: Also, there is an Amazon series version of "A League Of Their Own" that is about to release it's second and final season. It was really good as well.

This makes me wonder, since the start and end of this movie are set there, Nat, given you're from CNY: have you ever been to Cooperstown? Even if you don't check out the Baseball Hall of Fame, it's a beautiful town. Plus, the Ommegang Brewery is there and that's well worth a visit. Last time I was up there, there was a jazz festival at the brewery. Really cool place to visit. EDIT: Welp, you seemingly answered my question in the reaction! That'll teach me to pose those questions before actually starting the reaction! Ha! EDIT 2: I always forget that Tea Leoni is essentially an extra in this, as one of the random players for Racine. EDIT 3: "Are these two gonna...?" (regarding Hanks and Davis) I believe in the original script, there was a bit of a romantic subplot with those two characters but, thankfully, they realized that would be a great way to make their two leads unlikable since you'd have your main character cheating on her husband who was fighting in the war overseas, and they ditched it.

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Haven't seen this one since it came out, so I'm looking forward to re-visiting it with you 😊 Forgot how good this movie was Nat. A lot of now familiar faces in the cast, and some great lines, both funny and emotional. Definitely a Friday night movie that we needed. And Hans Zimmer back in the days when he wrote thematic material for orchestra. He wrote some amazing scores back then. I miss those days ha ha 😄 Thanks as always for all your great reactions this week Nat 💛
