Help me pick a sci-fi flick!
🕑 Added 2025-01-22 17:00:13 +0000 UTCTitle says it all :) I haven't seen any of these except for Hitchhiker's Guide (which I have seen most of, but never finished).

Maybe let’s pick something she hasn’t seen?
David Bresson
It was interesting coming back to the comments on this poll and seeing how so many people who commented had the same exact take as me - Stargate SG-1 isn't going to happen, so vote Gattaca. Yet somehow Gattaca performed terribly in the poll.
Jordan Freemyer
If you want sci-fi I can't recommend both Severance and Silo on Apple TV+ highly enough. Severance is more popular and more likely to win a poll, but both series are excellent.
Fiorella Burgos
I know it has nothing to do with sci fi... but any chance of watching Agatha all along?
Troy B.
I've been a HHG fan in all of its forms: radio play, TV show, novel, text adventure, new radio show, website, and yeah, even the movie. That said, I would argue that literally all of the other movies you've listed are better movies than the Hitchhiker's Guide movie, and I say that as someone who saw it in theaters and owns said movie on DVD (because my nerdy side refuses to not own everything Douglas Adams had something to do with, though I personally don't think he would have signed off on this cut if he'd lived to see its completion.) But at least we have a movie version, is what I keep telling myself. Anyway, the people have spoken, so... Edit: Oh wait, I just saw Stargate won. Never mind!

After Moneyball, you should do a poll for sports movies. My vote is for Miracle (or Mighty Ducks)
Logan Kerlee
Honestly, that's the entire reason why I'm voting for it. :P Don't get me wrong though - I dig on the movie but I loved the show as a kid and would love to dive back into it again as an adult but with a community of people watching it all together would only make the experience that much better/more fun. :)
Logan Kerlee
xD Hell yeah.
Logan Kerlee
Personally, I'd love for all of us to watch Stargate SG1! The show's very fun and it's easy to get into/it's very accessible. I'd have a ton of fun watching it again. :)
Shawn E Mercado
Sunshine is a criminally overlooked movie.
Logan Kerlee
Ah okay! I don't think I've ever subbed to Reacts with Jax or Addie Counts before, but the other two, the first and last I used to be subbed to on Patreon. :)
Logan Kerlee
It wasn't around when I was in 5th grade but yeah, amazing movie!
Logan Kerlee
I've always preferred the show over the film but it does have some great bits about it, yeah. :)
michael anderson
if donnie darko is on the list, then brazil should be there....very underrated film. stalker is an oldie that has a great feel to it. 2010 was actually a pretty good sequel. dark city could work here. i think its story is better than the matrix. technically could put the road on here. great movie but very unhappy. maybe good ol primer, confuse everybody. instead of the movie hitchhikers guide, do the old bbc series, much more fun.
PureGonzo
Let’s go Donnie!
Christopher Mcconnell
I have to say that I think 95% of the time I pick the lest voted for movie. I love Gattaca. my 5th grade science teacher let us watch it in class. its really good, keep it on the rotation please.
Greg Kenzo Wickstrom
HHGTG! A must watch
West Beast
Stargate is amazing
Dillon Sylvester
I really want to see Nat’s take on Donnie Darko… too bad it always barely loses
Joshua King
Definitely watch Gravity at some point! It's an amazing sci-fi
Natalie Gold
haha I promise I'll do more sci-fi polls this year and include it a lot!
Natalie Gold
Appreciate the reminder!
Natalie Gold
so smart lol...
Daniel McGuinness
Okay but where’s Sunshine, Upgrade, Moon, Coherence, or Prometheus/Covenant (if only to get to Romulus)??
Derder
VKunia/Reacts With Jax/Just Stef/Addie Counts/Popcorn In Bed would be the main ones
Logan Kerlee
100% with you on preferring the series to the film.
Logan Kerlee
Also - this is just for the Stargate film.
Logan Kerlee
While that's fair to figure - it doesn't make me happy knowing that it is.
Logan Kerlee
Who are your other reactors that you follow/are subscribed to?
Logan Kerlee
Not going to lie, I'm disappointed that Gattaca's doing so poorly. It's easily one of my favorite sci fi movies of all time.
Derder
As much as I love Stargate and am sure it will win, I would love to see the reactors I follow watch Donnie Darko and NONE of them have :( Still, I'll be happy for any of these :)
Rog
A.I. (2001)
Erik Stevenson
That's my take as well MV, it was definitely a pillar of Sci-Fi for a while, but movies have changed so much in the last 50 years. The pace of Close Encounters really drags, and for folks who are now extremely familiar with seeing aliens/spaceships in TV and Movies, it can be a bit underwhelming even if it was incredible in '77.
Erik Stevenson
Sunshine is such an absolutely incredible movie for reactions as well. Cinebinge just did it pretty recently and they were blown away lol.
Erik Stevenson
Every season of a show has to win a poll now, we'd literally never get through all 10 seasons of SG1.
Cory Silver
We are so close to Stargate SG1.... Gattica is wonderful though, watch it anyway.
Erik Stevenson
Personally I voted for Hitchhikers because I don't care that you've already seen most of it, I just love the movie lol. Surprised that Stargate is winning!
Hertzweil
Noooo Gattaca lost!
Peter Jones
I voted Gattaca. Great movie, and possibly relevant to the world soon. I love the Stargate franchise, and it's a must see if you're going to jump into the series, but I'm not a huge fan of the movie. I like it, but I prefer the series changes.
Gavinmc
Please at some point watch Gattaca, it’s beautiful and tender and I think you would love it. Plus all the actors are young people who go one to have amazing careers
thansen
Great films but I'd go with Close Encounters.
Opti_Frog
This is such a great poll. All of these films are amazing, fascinating and excellent. Except for Stargate, so of course it's in the lead. 😭
Joe D. MacGuffinstuff
One of the toughest polls because they're all must watches. I voted Donnie Darko because WEIRD. I'm weird and I love weird so Donnie Darko always wins lol but the others are so great too, Hitchhiker's is my second, but I say it's my 42nd. Damn but Gattaca is so damned good! And then the other two are iconic must sees.
devin flynn
One day we will watch hitchhikers guide! #42
devin flynn
42 ):
justajester
Ohhh yeahhhhh for got about that
Baggie Mark
Hi Justajester, Nat has already reacted to Spaceballs, if I remember correctly she wasn't a fan lol..
Mastervodo
I think out of these choices, Natalie would like Gattaca best. Because it's kind of a high-brow intellectual film, and Nat is a big ol' smartypants smarty girl.
justajester
A few more to consider 1. Spaceballs 2. The last mimzy 3. Enders game
sleepless_dream (Lauren)
1. Stargate 2. Donnie Darko 3. Hitchhikers Guide 🩷
Darryl Low
Just watch the theatrical edition of Stargate Nat. The director's cut is not required viewing, plus the theatrical version is more readily accessible for most people.
Walter Lopez
Keep Donnie Alive, Nat!
Adam
I agree with other comments please watch the Directors Cut of Stargate if it wins!!
Rey
Yea it would
Juliana Montenegro
I love Gattaca so much. Love that its in a poll even though its losing badly 😆
Jerry Gonzalez
Dang, Donnie darko would’ve been awesome
Jimmie V
Really missing out not putting A Clockwork Orange in there...
Peter Heine
Nat , if "StarGate" wins please watch the director's cut 2 hours 10 min runtime :)
matthew h
Donnie Darko defies category. Still, I hope it wins.
Avenging Dark
Gattaca is one of the best SF film ever made. It easily makes my top 10 list of SF in film history. Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide, though it is also one of my all time favourites, comes in a distant second on this list not because it isn't any good but the film, despite a gallant effort by both the studio and the talented cast, pales in comparison with the original Radio 4 broadcasts, the books and the BBC television series. The fault lies mainly with the necessary brevity of a film.
K0ppar
one day hitchhikers will win
Mike Hell
I’ll concur with what Vodo wrote, Dredd, Alita and Event Horizon would be nice scifi films. Or Sunshine, Alien Romulus, Pacific Rim, etc. I feel like I’ve seen Close Encounters and Donnie Darko lose out a few times now…
Noctis
Stargate series is great, the movie is okay. I'm surprised Donnie Darko isn't taking it. Gattaca should've been chosen. You're going to have to sneak in Hitch Hikers Guide like you did with The Boys, or it'll never get picked lol.
Bryan Erickson
Stargate because it's currently apropos... also Spader all-day!
JarHead0351
Stargate is a good movie and it got my vote but I won't mind The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would be mine 2nd choice
Darryl Low
You're right Baggie. Stargate will be right up Nattie's street 😊
Mastervodo
Some Sci-Fi recommendations: Dredd. (Kinda cross between sci-fi and comic book) Alita: Battle Angel. (Cross between sci-fi and Manga). Would love to see some continuation of the Alien franchise. Event Horizon (Sci-Fi and Horror mix). Pitch Black (Also kinda Sci-Fi Horror mixed with Fast and Furious).
Redrum Ritual
I won't call Donnie Darko a sci fi
Mastervodo
Not so much. Close Encounters is pretty boring when it comes to sci-fi shows.
Mastervodo
Would never happen.
Mastervodo
Ya. No way Nat's going to dive into that series.
Jason Gillman
Also there’s zero chance she will watch the Stargate series guys, stop coping and vote for the best movie
EngineeredTwist
*gasp* STARGATE and then you can watch the Stargate show (one of my all time favs!)
Jason Gillman
Gattaca is one of my favorite sci fi movies ever, this should be a no brainer vote for people imo
Baggie Mark
I loved Stargate as a teenager, one of my favourite movies. If it wins i think Nat will enjoy it.
Edward Rahardjo
Of course my pick is in last place.. Gattaca is one of the best sci-fi films I have seen. I watched it as a kid, not understanding everything, but moved by the swimming scene. And later as an adult understanding all the underlying symbolism, understanding why the swimming scene was so powerful. I hope it will get more attention next sci-fi poll
Sean Obrock
It's one of the most underrated scifi movies of the 90's!
Brant Campbell
Always depressing to pick my favorite and see it running in 5th. Ya'll sleeping on Gattaca.
Javi
Haven’t heard most of these movies. Went with Stargate bc it’s currently in the news right now for some reason.
Troy
Love all of these films. I went with Gattaca even though it's sadly not going to win. It is such an under-rated movie!
Thats MR. Baldamort
You can tell the age of this community because close encounters is in close to last lmao, darn zoomers.
adrianR31
All of these are good. Stargate is special to me. James Spader was incredible in it. Donnie Darko and Gattaca also very important films. Hitchhiker's Guide is peak storytelling. Close Encounters is the lowest for me but it was just a year or two too early for me. Still a monumental achievement.
Berry
Gattaca being low in this poll makes me feel a little bit sad. It's genuinely an extraordinary movie, one of my absolute favorites and way ahead of its time. It's an absolute triumph in cinema. The other choices aren't bad per se, but not really in the same league IMO.
Ali D
Noooo, I LOVE Gattaca but it will never win! 😫 The music is STUNNING
Ravinder Bath
Wow. Stargate over Close Encounters. Fucking madness
LittleGalaxyBoy
*Eats Popcorn* Polls always turn into YouTube comment sections lol I agree with David. Stargate works as a sort of prequel to the TV series Stargate SG-1. It features many of the same characters who appear in the series, though only around four actors returned, with some reprising their roles and others cast as new characters. However, the main cast of characters was entirely recast for the show. Even if you’re not planning to dive into SG-1, I’d still recommend checking out the movie, great introduction into this world. But I'm voting for Gattaca, needs some love.
David Bresson
I'd say Stargate if you were going to watch SG-1 and Atlantis, but I don't see that happening. That's over 300 (excellent) episodes of television.
Eric Wallace
7th chevron... locked
Chris Cooper
Please consider Contact (1997) for future sci-fi film polls (assuming you haven't already seen it!)
Darryl Low
Happy Wednesday Nat. Lots of cool movies to choose from. Going to vote for Stargate this time around. Such a fun, epic movie, and the score is one of my favourites 😊 Have a great day Nat 💛
Boomcity
All meh
Skellyp
Can’t wait for AoT to be in a pole one day!
Endling_king
STARGATE!!!! Such a great movie and series!
Rek
Stargate is amazing and unlocks the shows!
