Crispin

grave of fire flies is gonna destroy you natt XD

Taff Lewis

It's a tough call, I expect she'll watch Sub'd which is preferred. Though there is so much value when the English Dubs are familiar comfort-food voices.

Erin Steele

Please watch the dubbed version of Howls Moving Castle 🏰. Christian Bale is the voice! In my opinion the English dubbed versions are much better for me personally. They were done by Disney, so the English dub is very high quality. So there would be no issue with watching the rest of the Studio Ghibli movies in English dubbed form!

Randy

They’re probably not going to win any polls if they’re competing with Miyazaki, but Takahata’s other movies are every bit as good as Grave of the Fireflies. Whether it’s on this page or not, they absolutely merit a watch.

Taff Lewis

Can't seem to find the "All of the above button"?, oh well, this is a "no lose" poll anyway. So: 1. Watch all when you can. 2. On Youtube, Plug their exclusive Patreon Only availability; maybe even come up with an "Ghibli-intro-tier" promotion?. 3. Make sure your data analyst tracks and/or polls new members added. thanks again for your work. 4. Secure your place as the dominant "First-Time Reactor on the Planet!" [Was that too thick, it might have been too think=]

Eric Janssen

“Oo, Howl’s so dishy! 😍” is almost literally the only reason I’ve heard girls like it, apart from the aforementioned “Never seen any other Ghibli films in my life”. And the next Fangirl about to say “But, Billy Crystal!” without having heard Phil Hartman in Kiki’s Delivery Service

Erik Stevenson

I believe they mean that big name, major actors want to be the voice actors for US Ghibli releases, and that tells us that a) these movies are great and b) given the talent involved it's very silly to pretend the dubs are lacking in any aspect.

Robert Bonfante

As far as I'm concerned, Natalie can go through the whole list of Studio Ghibli. I've never seen Howl's Moving Castle, but I'll gladly watch along with the reaction.

Thomas Wetherell

Hey Natalie, do you have any interest in putting Super 8 on a science fiction poll in the near future? It’s a really underrated J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg movie I think you’d enjoy a lot. If I had to describe it I’d say it’s a cross between E.T. and Stranger Things.

Josh R

nahhh Japanese is superior but the English is good. just not as good

Eric Janssen

Read the book
No, seriously. Harry Potter was just Diana Wynne-Jones fanfiction. Especially for clever parodies of English fairytale tropes, most of which flew MILES over Hayao’s head, so he threw out Diana’s complex middle plot of the book, and puttied up the cracks with inexplicably pointless hocus-pocus and some “Curse of war” licks he had left over from Princess Mononoke. Dear lord, it’s a crime what he did to it—Especially when his Kiki also threw out Eiko Kadono’s book, but managed to improve on it.

Tomas

So I take it you don't like Howl's Moving Castle? You've got bad taste my dude.

oscar latorre

personally id recomend watch first porco rosso and then the wind rises

oscar latorre

some ppl say that because originally they released both in double sessions on japan's cinemas but theres not a reason to not watch them stand alone

oscar latorre

jesus christ... gatekeeping much? theres always that guy that needs to tell his war stories about when he was the only one that knew how good anime was and that thinks every old movie is better.... grow out of it dude and let others enjoy it. Howls castle is an excelent movie on its own, and that doesnt mean that totoro kiki or porco rosso are worst for it.

PrayTellCaesar

I wonder if nat will fall for howl like many girls I know 😂

Mastervodo

Looks like we are going to be watching Howls Moving Castle. First time for me.

Joseph Kim

Dubbed version of Howls Moving Castle stars Christian Bale and Emily Mortimer 😁

asha

YAYY im another advocate for the dubs only for studio ghibli am i so passionate for english dub lol ESPECIALLY HOWLS MOVING CASTLE

Harry Reece

What do you mean Main Stream Hollywood are trying to get the dubs? And what exactly should that be telling us?
.

Will Morgan

I'm a bit late, but I will say that GOTF and Totoro don't need to be watched together. The similarities are essentially setting and some very similar shots. That said, watching them together would be good if you can, just make sure GOTF is first.

Kraackin

NausicaÀ and castle in the sky are my favourites. Classic Ghibli

Kraackin

the dubs for Ghibli are the best around. probably the only dubs i would be push heavily. Main stream Hollywood are trying to get the dubs for these films. That should tell you something.

Giancarlo Gasparin

Does anyone who's been here for a minute know if Mission Impossible has ever come up on one of these polls?

Kraackin

Listen to the dubs. Great voice actors also nausicaa and boy and the heron but you should watch that one last....I thinks it's his master piece

Eric Janssen

And I’ll match that with Day 1 of asking for Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer. If you’re going to brag about Akira and Ghost in the Shell, and yet have never heard of the THIRD most classic/acclaimed non-Ghibli anime film ever made

Eric Janssen

There is a reason so many fans love Howl’s Moving Castle: Namely, it was the second Ghibli film they’d ever seen in their lives after bragging to the world that they were now “anime fans” for having seen Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, and rushed to see the next one that played wide release in cineplexes. Even though it was a lazy, incomprehensible train wreck of borrowed past-Ghibli licks. We’re the OG anime fans.kiddos, you never lived to see a ruthlessly guarded third-generation fan-copied VHS tape of Kiki with homemade subtitles, taken off an imported Japanese Pioneer laserdisc. You built US Ghibli fandom on OUR backs, so let’s see some respect for Kiki, Totoro, and Castle of Cagliostro. 😠

Kyle Turning Robe

watch studio ghibli movies in english dub. Voice actors are amazing in english.

Aidan Byrnes

Day 1 of asking for Attack on Titan

Connor Vide

She can do what she wants lol. There’s a dub for a reason. I don’t mind

Erik Stevenson

Nah, I'd prefer Nat to be watching the movie rather than reading the subtitles if I'm watching her reaction.

Harry Reece

You’re a grown adult that can read. And so can your viewers. Always choose original language of any type of film, live action or animated. Having said that, the Ghibli dubbed are good but they’re created for ‘children’ who cannot read quickly, if at all.

Ridley

Pleaase do dubbed version as well

Adam Doyle

Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies do not need to be watched together, completely different films. Kiki gets my vote just to give it some love.

Hertzweil

Please do dub for Howl's Moving Castle, it's soooooo good!

Wesley

I'll always vote Grave of The Fireflies. This is the rare poll where I'm happy with whatever wins, they're all classics in my book.

Darryl Low

Happy Wednesday Nat. Excited to watch any of these. Voting for Howl's MC this time. Have a great day 😊

Skellyp

Can’t wait for AoT to be on one of these poles one day!

—thoughtstorms—Keith—

No-lose Poll. You spoil us like no other. I know several of the actors that voice the English dubs for anime (none of the Miyazakis). When I ran into some anime obsessed students at the University I attended, I mentioned this to them. You could tell the real diehards, because they told me right to my face they hate the English dubs. But I agree that a lot of the feature films are great in English. They cast big names. ((Which would be truly upsetting if my 3 auditions at Funnimation had gone just a little better. Never quite landed one, but i was called back for some TV series, and they considered me for the narrator! Same\better pay, (in every episode) and none of the hours spent just making random sounds like out of breath, exerting heavily, sudden pain,.......))

Beth Brown

Natalie, i don't watch anime or foreign films, so i'll pass on this, but i'm so excited for this year's Natmares

djKENTO

yo when you get to Grave of Fireflies have time to decompress and have tissues. That movie will fuck you up emotionally for a whole day.

RationallySassy

I’ll give support to others comments: the English dub is great for Howl (and many of the Ghibli movies). Your Name is up there with the best Ghibli movies (and Suzume, who is has the same director). Lastly I love Kiki’s Delivery Service. So I hope that, and Castle in the Sky, will win one day!

Ashleep

The Normies were going to react to "Grave of the Fireflies" but couldn't find it streaming anywhere, so Natalie may need to source it and watchalongs would be limited for those who don't already own it in some way.

Jason C

Your Name.

KoolKamal

Voted for Grave of the Fireflies because it needs to be watched at least once in a lifetime.

Yani Dodge

Ah, eventually we'll get to Kiki's delivery service! :P I'm glad you're watching so many Ghibli movies though, I'm working on watching more of them too! :)

Brandon Tracy-Hurst

Howls in English please!!!

Raieldon

Nope, I was referring to her stated fondness for the more grounded and personal, contra "cheesy" which we so often hear in her appraisals that end up rated lower.

alejandro lugo

for the love of god nat react to your name please!

matthew h

yay, another ghibli movie. really enjoying these reactions and going thru these movies again. I see no reason why totoro and fireflies should be viewed together. grave of the fireflies needs space and time to process after watching.

Henkan

Not a hot take, I think. The Wind Rises ranks among Miyazaki's best imo, and it deserves more love.

Erik Stevenson

Is that tailored to Nat's taste or tailored to folks who want to watch Nat cry for reactions?

NobleSon32

My Ghibli Tier List: 1: Princess Mononoke / The Boy and the Heron 2: Spirited Away 3: Howls Moving Castle 4: NausicaÀ and the Valley of the Wind 5: Castle in the Sky 6: Castle of Cagliostro (Lupin the 3rd) *not actually a Ghibli film but one of Miyazaki's first films* 7: My Neighbor Totoro

Raieldon

I can't imagine choosing anime tailored for your specific tastes without Grave Of The Fireflies.

Sam Winkler

You will LOVE Howl's. My personal fave of Ghibli's among many greats.

Erik Stevenson

May be a hot take, but I'd love to see The Wind Rises on a future Ghibli poll. Very different from the Ghibli movies you've seen, but I feel like what you've seen so far has not done justice to Miyazaki's love of planes.

Jacob King

I love Howl’s Moving Castle (and voted for it) but it comes from the same “mature period” Miyazaki as Mononoke and Spirited Away. Obviously they are beautiful and thoughtful masterpieces by a great genius but they don’t have any pirates. Both Porco Rosso and Laputa have many pirates.

Rey

Hopefully a bit more variety coming soon with october on the horizion!

IngloriousPrime8

Gotta go with the English dub for Howl's. Either way can't wait! My movie snack will be a feast for the ages đŸ€€

Henkan

Howl's is MY JAM! Fantastic movie! As others have said, this one has a terrific English dub, so I would even recommend it before the sub.

Edward Rahardjo

If you have to start with one, I would say My Neighbor Totoro. It's just universally loved by everyone, and brings up happy childhood memories

Ridley

My neighbor and howl are both incredible pieces that are a must watch 😭

Marina Fuller

Dubbed howls please! The dubs are actually very very worth it!!

Michael McNeill

Totoro was my first Ghibli and first tattoo so it always gets my vote.

Erik Stevenson

Agreed, dubbed is so good.

Julia Burch

I think you'll really enjoy Howl!

adrianR31

Christian Bale as Howl is perfect. And Billy Crystal as Calcifer. Consider the dubbed version for this one.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Gotta go with my wee Welsh Man, Howl's Moving Castle.

Heliastein

When vote for next show?

Noctis

Hard choice between Howls and Totoro, I don't think we should make you watch Grave of the Fireflies just yet, but soon lol.

Lukas Weimar

I hope Totoro wins it’s just a really wholesome movie

Lukas Weimar

Watching them separately is fine they’re two different movies with very different vibes
