Voyage Chapter 8: Betrayal, How Surprising
🕑 Added 2025-05-17 16:10:00 +0000 UTCA/N: What do you guys think about some characters from other series being added as crewmates for roles that I cannot fill with the og cast(Like Doctor and Chef)? Of course, after they would be appropriated for the world. I got some fun ideas for it but I would like to hear your opinions on it first.

"So, how about it boss? While you go and fight Buggy I'll sneak in and make it out with his treasure and meet you back at the ship!"
Nami said in an appeasing tone as she tried to convince her new target and technically saviour. If she were to be honest, she felt a little conflicted.
Although the man had saved her from a pretty bad situation, he was still a pirate who almost definitely killed those guys in cold blood. While she felt a little bad about pitting him up against Buggy it couldn't be helped.
With the map of Grandline that she stole from Buggy now blown to the winds, she needed to make up her losses in some way to be able to buy back her village from Arlong.
So, even if she felt a pang of guilt she would use this man to distract Buggy and steal his treasure while both parties were distracted. The ideal situation would be that they both knock each other out in an even match and she gets to leave the island with the ship of the man whose name she learned was Yuji.
"Hmm, I guess that makes sense. While Buggy could cause a little trouble I shouldn't lose against him. So, when should we do this?"
She would have taken his casual boast as arrogance if she hadn't seen him turn the wind itself into a cannonball explosion. Which indeed made her decision to try and rob him a very questionable one.
But she knew for a fact he was loaded from what she needed out of him as they talked, he apparently already took down a pirate ship on his way here and had their loot on top of his. She had to take the chance. Besides, there would be no way for him to take down Buggy quickly enough to catch her in the act right?
Right? No one is that strong.
She entertained the thought of whacking him over the head with her baton and knocking him out before delivering him to Buggy as a peace offering but two things made her avoid that decision.
Firstly because if she failed she would no doubt either be splattered across Orange Town or he would do worse to her. She did not feel like she had to explain such an obvious point but being a cute navigator did not give her the ability to survive blasts of wind strong enough to shatter houses.
Secondly, it was because... of that damn face!
Nami averted her gaze as he gave her a roguish grin.
"So? Nami? You seem distracted."
She felt heat creep into her face. It wasn't fair alright!? Why did the most handsome man she came across have to be a pirate? He looked almost like a prince with his soft and wild hair and sun-like shining eyes. Growing up in a village with mostly older people and without boys her age Nami did not have much experience with the opposite sex that she considered attractive.
Sure, she knew how to weaponise her plentiful feminine charms but 98% of the people she encountered in her pillaging spree across the seas were unwashed, dirty, unkempt, and hairy pirates.
So she had no idea how to deal with a handsome, clean, shaven, pirate with the most beautiful amber-coloured eyes she had ever seen.
"R-right boss!" She injected false confidence into her voice as she turned to him. "We should do it as soon as possible as he must have sent men here to investigate so his forces should be scattered. You can go ahead and I'll follow from a distance to find an opportunity to strike."
The man stood up from his chair and cracked his neck with a confident smile, giving her a grin that made it difficult for her to restrain her conscience.
"Alrighty then, I'll go and take down the Clown Man, in the meanwhile I'll leave the looting spree in your hands Ms. Cat Burglar. Make sure to bleed 'em dry."
Nami nodded fervently with fake cheer.
"Of course boss! Leave it to me!"
She watched his back as he left the house boldly.
The plan was simple, infiltrate Buggy's base while their back was turned. Steal his treasure, head for Yuji's ship, deposit her loot there and set sail, leaving the island behind.
He wouldn't see it coming!
...Though she couldn't explain why she felt so bad about it.

She is definitely planning to take Buggy's treasure to my ship and leave without me.
Not that I was worried about that per se, even if my showdown with Buggy took longer than I anticipated and she managed to leave on my ship chasing her down would be trivial thanks to Nue and Gale.
So I had no problem letting Nami think she played me, catching her in the act of stealing from me would get me in a better position to negotiate with her.
Was it a bit morally ambiguous of me to use my meta-knowledge to plan to get her to do what I want her to do? Maybe. But I was also saving her town and was going to be putting Arlong into the dirt so if I were in her shoes I wouldn't complain.
Now then, how should I go about taking down Buggy the Buggster? I am no fan of fanfare, I like Blitz strategy. My ideal plan consists of taking down the acrobat swordsman and beast tamer first to get their ticket before confronting Buggy. I wouldn't risk flying considering Buggy Balls worked in the air and I wasn't looking forward to getting hit by a cannonball that is stronger than a ballistic missile.
As I stepped out fo the building my vision was covered by another quest notification.

Description: This town you have ended up in seems to be stricken with a pretty serious case of clown infestation. Fortunately for the townsfolk who used to live here, you are a certified pirate exterminator. Drive the Buggy Pirates out of town. Preferably without offing the childhood friend of a Yonko, that seems like a very bad idea.

Yes, I doubt a skill would help me much right now but I should at least defeat that Cabbage guy. A silver ability could help very much right now even if I stuck to my guns with Ozone Baby.
Well then, no dallying, my energy was already fully restored thanks to Efficient Cells. So I strode out into the street with an audacious gait to my stride. I was headed towards the largest building in town with a large tent on top, Buggy's makeshift base. Without making it more than 50 steps I encountered a group of 10 pirates who were on the lookout for yours truly.
"Guys! Do you think he is the guy we are looking for?" "I mean, I don't remember any villagers that handsome." "Look at how audacious his gait is, it's definitely him." Oh, thank you random pirate 3# for noticing my aggravating stride to draw attention.
Snap!
"Minefield."
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Sounds of screams registered alongside explosions as I created several dozen pockets of high pressure in the area where they stood, causing dozens of explosions of wind. Not enough to splatter human bodies but more than enough to break bones. You can simply ask those pirates getting absolutely battered and flung around by the air grenades over there.
"Too easy. Is this all the Buggy Pirates are worth?"
I monologued out loud in an arrogant manner hoping that someone was watching me and would get offended by it after seeing the unmoving pirates lying on the ground. Seeing no one else come out I resumed walking towards Buggy's tower. It was almost impossible to not hear the sound of shockwaves from Ozone Baby after all.
As I walked I heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching me, it sounded more like an animal so I guessed they were Momji and Richie instead of Cabbage.
My suspicion proved to be true as I backed off a little, and the moment I did a large green and purple creature crashed through one of the buildings, it had demon-red eyes and strength I did not feel like contending with. Riding the lion was a rather disturbing man.
"So you are the rapscallion that has been beating up our men and causing such a ruckus! I the Beastmaster Momji, and my pet Richie will destroy you!"
I put my hands in my pockets as I stared at the middle-aged man whose hair and facial hair had fused into the shape of a white bear mask and wore nothing but a fur over his torso, he was also quite ugly. Of course, I wasn't just staring, I was creating a high-pressure zone that I was increasing more and more below him as I did so.
"Beast tamer? Is that ability granted to you by that strange helmet you are wearing?"
His eyelid twitched and the giant building-sized lion beast started inching towards me with saliva dripping out of its mouth, eyeing me like a fresh cut of wagyu steak.
"You! How rude! This is just natural hair! Richie! Teach this rude bastard a lesson!"
Snap!
"Time's up!"
"Wha-!"
Booooom!!!
I watched in awe as the giant animal and its master were flung into the sky I could see blood trailing out of the lion's mouth as it flew, probably because it just took the equivalent of a truck crashing into its chest.
"Man, I just love it when people monologue."
Who'd think a circus-themed pirate crew would have a soft spot for theatrics? Works for me well enough. I looked at the sky, counting seconds until I heard a giant thud that created a small earthquake.

I don't think I need to justify my choice here with an explanation. Especially considering one of my abilities literally gives me super strength, maybe I should learn Fishman Karate to make better use of it? As I confirmed my selection I felt a slight headache happen as muscle memory was engraved on my mind as well as visions of stances, how to strike, dodge, hit, block etc. be assimilated into my memories. Once the headache faded I clenched my fist.
I think I'm a pretty good melee combatant now. Not on the level of a Straw hat-wearing rubber hose maniac but I can take down the average fishman most likely as long as I used strength.
Looking towards the buildings the duo had fallen towards I gave a salute.
Men, your sacrifices to increase my power will not be forgotten.
"Hmph! I didn't think Momji would turn out that useless to be thrown out of the ring in less than a minute. Buggy must have anticipated his failure as he sent me, Cabaji, the genius acrobat and swordmaster after you to exact his will and take you down!"
I blinked owlishly as I looked towards the man who emerged from an alleyway opposite where Momji had come from, a man in strange clothes and oversized scars riding a unicycle of all things as he held two swords in his hands. His chuuni words only served to frame how ridiculous he looked, I'd point and laugh if I weren't aware that he could slice me in half with a single wrong more.
He fought Zoro at least semi-evenly, and that wasn't a fight that I wanted to take. At least fairly anyway.
Crack!
"No!!! My trusty partnerrrr!!! Don't leave meeee!!!"
His flow completely changed as I used a small pressure zone to blast off the wheel of his unicycle, he immediately panicked and crouched to inspect the damage done to the unicycle, holding it as if it were a cherished lover who had been shot.
He was so caught up with the death of his beloved that I was able to create another high-pressure zone above him.
Boom!
"Kuakh!"
He was hit by the blast of air and bounced off of the ground from the impact, leaving cracks, but he wasn't harmed enough to be out of commission. Yet anyways.
"Cluster."
Boom! Boom! Boom!
"Oof! AH! Ouch! Yikes!"
I kept hitting with bursts of his pressure air after one another, due to how little power I could put into them with such little time they didn't have much power but if I did as fast as possible it turned into what would feel like a barrage of fists. Like my own Gomu Gatling.
BOOM!
"Guuuaaahhh!!!"
I finally managed to knock him out by taking the time to make a stronger zone over his head now that he was too discombobulated from my barrage before releasing the zone and hitting his noggin with a wind burst that buried his head in the ground.

A/N: Nami and Yuji are off to a rough start. Nami is obviously going to double cross a pirate but her maiden heart is hurting because, frankly, Yuji is one of the most handsome people in the east blue for women on the fact that he has lady killer, pretty eyes, and does not look like an abomination. Did you guys like her character? Was I doing a good job staying true to her? I'd like to know.
Ozone Baby is op and it will not be nerfed! It is slow but powerful, not as powerful as Luffy who was lifting 100-ton rocks casually in Syrup Village but strong. Especially against Clowns who monologue and show off. What did you guys think about it and how Yuji uses it?

Unfortunately, after Buggy the enemies stop stop standing around and monolouging so much and they would be actually fully aware of the threat of devil fruits so Yuji will have a harder time landing OB. Yuji is definitely my luckiest MC in early game but its not yet on the same level as Mr. Demon Lord + Devil Trigger + Helltaker in DxD.

No need to worry, they aren't from the gacha so they don't just pop in. I already have plans for their backstories that are in line with One Piece history and plot.

To be honest, Nami isn't really stupid, in general, not trusting pirates is a great idea no matter how handsome they may look.

I don't know about polling, having participation from my readers is always something I like but also I feel like giving the choice to the readers will make it harder for me to keep my work as consistent and cohesive. I don't want too big of a character bloat so I won't do too mayn Expies, I will just stick to roles I can't fill normally most likely. But the crew will definitely be bigger than the straw hats.

Oh Nami, completely in character but she just needs to spend a little time with Yuji before she comes around. “You’re telling me this handsome bastard is just an adventure loving cutey who is only a sadistic jackass to actual dirty evil pirates and he doesn’t care about money and will give me all the loot!?!? When can we get married?” Also, I’m all for expies for the crew but only thing I would ask is to do polls for whom the characters will be and don’t be afraid of having multiple characters for the same role. Like their is nothing wrong with having 2 chefs on the ship or people who specialize in one part of a discipline. Like we can have a standard doctor and a surgeon. A shipwright, a gunsmith and a tinkerer and they all work together. A proper maid or two to keep the ship clean. A night crew as well so that there will always be a watch. We don’t need hundred or even dozens but having 1 dozen is also too little. Anyway, great stuff man! Can’t wait for more.

Nice chapter and I hope Nami and him get along quick enough after Nami is done being stupid. And when it comes to expies, as long as they fit in, are fun, and there aren't too many then I don't mind!

Tftc, since many of the pirates and marines tend to monologue at times throughout the series, yeah, Yuri will have a good time, though he'll need to worry about those who act first before their monologue. All in all, I love the pace, I love how ruthless the MC is and looking forward to more! Also, Yuji's luck is a cheat! Too many synergistic abilities at the get go! As for Nami heh, looking forward to how you'll get them to negotiate better terms with each other and their future together~

Love the versatility he is having with Ozone, Nami's being written well in my opinion , as far as charachters from other verses coming in I wouldnt mind it as long as there is story there , not just popping them in I'd love to know how they got where they are.
