This I can also understand. The Clan was wiped out before Kushina's time, so it was a couple generations ago, and there were only a handful left scattered across the continent. This was enough for other clans everywhere to rise to prominence, while the Uzumaki and their name fell into obscurity, to the point only Orochimaru had knowledge enough to see any value in an Uzumaki.

I can somewhat understand that, the problem is giving him the Uzumaki name as they were so feared, they were wiped by a coalition army. So WTF on that one.

I'm assuming it'd giving the Third the reason why he never got more involved with Narutos life. A Hokage showing an orphan in their village favour would really raise some eyebrows and get people talking, which would compromise Naruto if someone started digging into his history.

When your father is this legendary Hokage who is the only shinobi in history to be so dangerous he had a flee on sight order issued to anyone who came across him, you can understand this comes with a big consequence. Obviously he earned this claim to fame by killing an enormous amount of people- which very likely means he will have a lot of enemies seeking to gain their pound of flesh- which they will look to take from his family and relatives. With him and Kushina dead, Naruto essentially had no clan or family to protect him, thus the Third not only had to keep him buried to the point he couldn't give Naruto his father's clan name, but he had to isolate and ostracize him to the point he wouldn't have a big target put on his back.

Alternate timeline but still a stark reminder that man...Sarutobi really screwed the pooch on honoring Lord Fourth's wish for Naruto. Even if you wanna blame Danzo for fear mongering, that just adds more fuel to the fire of Sarutobi also letting that clown get away with constantly causing problems and undermining things for his own ends. And Sarutobi still does nothing to actually remedy the ill will and legit demonizing pushed onto a literal child for over a decade.
