While I'd like to agree with you, the way I'm seeing this, is going for plugging weaknesses is like deciding to bring a tent during a few hour hunt, and because you took a tent, you can no longer take a gun, only a bow(and arrows). Shoring up weaknesses is good, but the best way to shore up his night time weakness, is to not be in a bad spot when night falls. Whereas whenever he DOES go out, he will 100% be able to use extra damage. IF he takes a shot, and hits something, and that something doesn't die, he can either run, or with your abilities, he could camouflage himself and maybe try again, but doubling or tripling the damage could make you not have to deal with that at all. Of course, if THAT doesn't kill it, then he's in trouble, but if he's stupid enough to pick a fight with something that strong, he doesn't deserve his life anyway lol. There's a lot to think about though. Both piercing and camoflage are QI spells. I feel like self learning Spiral Pierce or Camouflage wouldn't be nearly as difficult as something like Scentless Hunter or Spark Shot. Although, of course, it'd be difficult. If he plans on not hunting for a while, I'd personally try to self learn spiral pierce, using the logic of treating qi like the striations in a guns barrel to propel an arrow, or some other spiral ideas. If he learns it on his own, I'd probably take scentless hunter or night eyes, but if not, I'd personally take the damage. You don't need defense in a 1v1 if they're dead. (unless you're being tracked.. then good luck)

It's a matter of opinion. Hiding better is definitely a priority, both for hunting and escaping monsters. Getting better at hiding will always be a smart choice. But as we've seen multiple times so far, there comes a time where your only option is to attack. Since he's already pretty proficient with One With The Land, and will only get better with training, it seems like it'd be a good idea to shore up his offensive arsenal. Not to mention using Piercing Shot on arrows, it could also make his spear much more effective. In the end he should obviously get both, though! The only thing better than attacking an enemy with overwhelming violence is ambushing them with overwhelming violence!

More damage is hardly a bad thing but I'd think something that either lets him hide better or see in the dark would be more important over all. Plugging those weaknesses for him seems like it'd be a bigger bonus.

Hmmmm... if I think about what would be most useful in a pinch, Spiral Pierce seems like the clear winner. When it comes to survival, Eight's strongest point is to attack with his bow and arrow from afar. That's the safest route and the most effective. The problem is that some beasts have defences that can't be overcome by his current equipment. Poison helps a lot, but it has to actually pierce them first. That's why I think Piercing Shot is the best way to improve his survivability at this moment. As for spells, a stealth spell like Scentless would synergize well with One With The Land and be more useful in everyday life, although Night Eyes is a close second as it would allow him to hunt at night, and Air Shield would be the most practical is a direct battle (which we know is coming). Just my thoughts!
