There most likely won't be any actual "shared status", but the perception will be there. Because Redwater would then go from a potent, but annoying threat to a source of existential dread. If the war pops off, the notion of plebian pilots will become known and common place; And that might just lead to there being no way to establish any form of monarchy, due to the peasantry suddenly holding real power, regardless of who the ultimate winner would be. So it could translate to George having to remember another old saying from our world. "Walk softly, but carry a big stick". Basically, he'd end up dodging every armed conflict through the sheer power of the changes he brings. As for Xela, that depends on how much she sees in the tech. She'll definitely understand the reasons for all the training specifics, and it will definitely shell-shock her, but beyond that, it will really will depend on whether she understands just how much of a threat the technology represents to the current way of things. Even though she has a soft spot for the common woman (and an even softer spot for the common man), she might oppose it simply due to how much danger the society shattering implications of the tech could bring.

At some point, the ruler will be someone who Yelena never had direct contact with. She knows this. The question is can she trust her descendants to keep producing good monarchs indefinitely. I am pretty sure she knows enough history to realize the answer to that question is no, she can't. She probably hasn't been thinking about this that much because of the pending civil war. After all, if her side loses, her descendants will not have to worry about the throne. They will be worried about staying alive long enough to go into exile.

Good question. I think the geas has to be formed in the dream, but I doubt William can convey all the information in a dream. I expect he has to relay it while awake. The geas just prevents Xela from telling anyone else. Hopefully, he has a really secure room for these types of discussions, if he can't do it in the dream. IIRC his geas with Marline was just formed in the dream. He didn't have to tell her anything because she got to see it as they went out in the boat to kill the kraken.

On a different note, I think William is preparing for a civil war post-slavery, but I don't think he wants it. I expect he thinks democracy, whether a republic or a constitutional monarchy is a better system. I think he also believes that it is likely to be opposed, but is he preparing for possible conflict or building up for one he thinks is certain? I would be interesting to see him discuss it with the Queen. We already know that Yelena was prepared for major social changes when she decided that slavery had to go. She did that because she did not think a Lindholm faced with two larger empires that see it as a regrettably escaped province and a key asset in building the strength to take down their opposition. William thinks slavery is morally wrong, but I expect he would agree with the Queen that is is wrong on practical grounds as well. Too many orc mages are kept as field slaves and never get to use their potential. Given that, I would expect William will at least point out to the Queen the problems of monarchy. Specifically that a country with a good monarch is likely to be well-run. The problem is there is no good way to ensure a good monarch is followed by another good monarch. If he presents a constitutional monarchy as the best way to avoid the consequences of a bad monarch, I think she would at least entertain his argument.

Interesting question, I wonder just how Xela will feel about the idea of IC-powered shards? I don't think she is really that devoted to current practices, but until now changing them was only a theoretical possibility that she probably never even considered. Now, William is going to confront her with the reality that plebians will be shard pilots. They will not have their own magic to boost them, but I doubt the average shard pilot-mage will take much comfort from that if outnumbered 3 or 4 to 1 by plebian-piloted IC shards. Shard-pilots will not longer be the mage elite. They will now have to share status with plebian pilots.

As a big switch myself. I concur with Will, sometimes a woman taking charge like that is just incredibly nice. Also, can I say this is story has my favorite MC? I might have said it before, but it was reinforced again with how he approaches sex here. Your last stories had a lack of maturity with how the characters approached/treated sex that is clearly on display here. This here feels like a character that interacts it with in a healthy way all around
