I am not trying to dis this story, which I am enjoying a good deal. I am just curious. I noticed a significant decrease in comments over the first seven chapters of this story and the last seven chapters of Steam. Specifically, none of the chapters in this story have generated over two-digit comments (a total of 252 for all seven), while all of the last seven chapters of Steam had over 100 comments. My guess is that Steam generated more comments because it was about an MC that was from OTL Earth and was planning on gaining power by applying that knowledge. This means that the readers could more easily apply their own knowledge to comment on things William could or could not do. In the Sect and Space universes, the MC's actions are less dependent on their knowledge from Earth and more about what the in-universe technological environment lets them do. For example, in Sect, a lot of Jack's constraints were imposed by the limits of what his fabber was allowed to build. Similarly, a lot of what Jason can try is constrained by what Shilvati tech lets him do. In both cases, the author has a better idea than the readers about what the main characters can and can't do in their settings. Again, I am not trying to criticise the current story. I am enjoying it very much. I was just trying to figure out why there were fewer comments. Granted, the obvious point is that Steam had 50-plus chapters before the last seven to build engagement. However, while the current story is new, it was preceded by an entire trilogy. The first seven chapters of Steam had even fewer comments.

Jason'd probably accept such an offer. Mark wouldn't. Not to say he's a die-hard rebel or anything - but he does have some loyalty to Humanity and a disdain for the Imperium. Even if it was just in the name of advancing Imperial interests off of Earth in return for being allowed to go home he wouldn't take the offer.

I've pondered on how Mark might end up showing up in the main story, should it ever get continued; And should Mark ever show up there. And I recalled one ambitious Interior climber aiming to be a countess. She did say that she was looking for young, attractive men who were interested in working as a spy; And barring his loyalties, Mark might just fit the bill. Maybe once his contract is up and he's just about ready to look for where his own shop will be, Pernora comes knocking on his door with an offer he can hardly refuse; He gets to work for her as a spy for a while and in exchange his former allegiances are "forgotten".

Good update and thanks for the chapter. I wonder if the Ulnus have two distinct sexes or are they like Asari in Mass Effect, an all female that can absorb genetic material from any male. For that matter, if an Ulnus wants sex, why not present as male, since in most species in this universe females outnumber the males?

So happy to have a gel/slime character. They are always my favorite. To me there's just something so profoundly intimate about a person who can change shape and wrap around you almost like clothes.
