Honestly that is the most reasonable response Tisi could have. Jason did basically say to the entirety of his crew, and higher command, that he didn't trust his Captain. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about Tisi facing a demotion or some Admiral (assuming the Shil'vati have a similar naming convention to their rank) chewing her out for what Jason did.

Kuratenshi

Sadness. I'm going to miss Yaro. Sneaky fluff is best fluff.

Matt Bradock

Well. Gotta say, I'm absolutely hooked on this story. Truly curious where will it go now

Carter Dohoney

I discovered this series today... and damn, it's been a hell of a binge.

Sean

While I like the crew of the whisker I’m very excited to see where Jason goes next.

Andrew Jones

Man I just started reading this series yesterday ever through all the chapters and I need more excited to see where it goes, although a shame he has to leave the ship 😭

Julien Barrette

Tisi’s reaction is completely understandable, from a CO’s perspective. I would recommend Jason for Special Forces or Operator training, as it is plain that he is NOT a team player despite being a very competent soldier.

SquiddlyWinks

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more SSB

Damian

Well his next ship duty assignments are gonna be fun. 1. Clean out exomech 2. Repair exomech 3. Install thrusters on exomech

Damian

Why is Tisi calling him a "recruit?" He passed Basic...

Richard McCain

I just thought about something interesting... Jason's orders and location were deemed classified. This could work to their advantage hugely. No one really knew what he was there for, only that he supposedly pissed off a noble. They can twist this any way they want to.

Chris Swanson

Hellam, or Hellads?

TwoRavens

Tact isn't his strong suit. He's even admitted as such. But I have a feeling he's going to get seriously yelled at by basically everyone.

TwoRavens

She *almost* said ship. So that is definitely interesting.

Jean Lussier

Agreed with Epikos, it cannot be too short, or else the whole story of meeting new people will seem useless.

Epikos

This speaks volumes of the characterization that I want some time with Jason and half of the crew before he leaves. Especially Tisi, Yaro, Assisse, and Kernathu.

Epikos

As someone who was former military, I 100% understand where Tisi is coming from, but Jason did the best thing he could with the information he had. To me, this was the perfect way to end this event. I honestly wouldn't mind if Jason and Tisi sleep together before he heads off to whatever new adventure awaits. Honestly, I would love a chapter with Yaro, too. And one with Assisse and Kernathu for their perspectives on things. Especially with the former and how she played such hard devil advocate that she convinced herself that it would be better to give Jason up. I would like to see what happens if that's mentioned since the Sergeant is also the one who trained and drilled Jason into CQC clearing tactics. Honestly, if we could get 3 more chapters of "resolution" before Jason's next adventure, I think that'll do it. But whatever happens from here, I'm freaking game. I'm glad I got the patreon!

Sheeprat

I think its time for jason to be transferd to commando training

Shorlas Magaskawee

Not sending, at this point. I suspect the mood will change when she is no longer under the gaze of the other crew. But speaking in "official military" logic. Dude just shit all over her, all over her crew, all over their respect for Tisi and for him. What he did by blowing her off and stealing equipment is at best grounds for kicking him off their crew and sending him someplace else. At worst it's life in prison for treason.

Ripley Riley

"He smiled sadly, knowing that she was mostly joking." Wait, was she joking about kicking him off her crew or not sending the transfer request?

weedgamer420

hopefully they recovered kernathu's mech, or jason can use his newfound prestige to wrangle her a new one

Chimera

Odd how she specifies "Crew" instead of "Ship". One of these is not like the other.

NeWorlDark

I mean in fairness to Jason, I also wouldn't have 100% trusted the decision making of someone whose friend was a species trafficker.

Shorlas Magaskawee

I am of the expectation that he won't be leaving Tisi and her crew. In fact... I am of the belief, and hope, that come of his cadet cadre will end up coming out to visit rather than him leaving to visit them. Now that he has become a local hero/legend I bet word of him is going to make it back to more populated space and a few key individuals he met at the Crucible are going to learn of his location and engage with him.

Thenais

next chapter he will probably learn of tisi dedication to protect him. then they will make up in bed before he flew to new horizons. which annoys me quite a bit to ditch so much good characters behind, but it's the style of this story.

Nate D.

As a former military individual that did serve in war time operations, you're mostly spot on with a lot of your points to my mind. The one disagreement I have and it's only mild is that the military I served in and the Empires seems to have some very flipped differences regarding protecting the "weaker sex" and that's about it. Yes absolutely politics gets played out like we saw in this story. It's just usually not as blatantly on the nose with a sledgehammer. It does happen however and probably more than you realize. Someone happens to be the nephew of a Congressman? Yeah - he gets his first duty station choice or job skill no questions asked. The reason I say that is during investure (background investigations, and such that do happen) they would have contacted his immediate family and friends and one of them would have mentioned it. It would come out somewhere during their time in MEPS or bootcamp at the very latest as their congressman or senator relative WOULD show up most likely unless they are some sort of black sheep of the family. Now, if I had done the same thing as Jason? I'd have faced an Inquiry at minimum and probably have been brought up on charges ranging from disobeying a direct order to conduct unbecoming or unauthorized absence in the face of the enemy. No, I'm not making those up either. Now, he did overall have a positive effect and a win. Doesn't matter to the military usually if you disregarded your C.O. directly ordering you to return to your post. You. ARE. toast. I fully expect that Tisi and Jason will set the uniforms aside, will sit the entire crew down in fact in a rented conference room off the ship and both explain how he thought things to the conclusion he felt he had to act on and will give them a few human movies to watch - Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, Man on Fire. Would be a good start I think. To show what we our indomitable wills can accomplish if we believe in doing the right thing hard enough. I think after watching them the entire crew would view him and any other humans in a different light. That we may be smaller, but we are way way more determined to not fail when things like the people we care for or people we believe in are on the line. I know I've had to keep going when laying down and dying would be much easier and I think that this escapade of Jason was written in that same vein. I would ALSO very much like to see how the situation with Assisse is going to play out when it's mentioned she was talking of saving her own purple skin by throwing Jason to Hela's clutches. I suspect it's going to be... interesting how that gets dragged out of the dark and the light shined on it.

blackwolf393

I mean really, there needs to be a no shit heart to heart with tisi about what it means to be a human in the military. Rank is law 99% of the time, of course. But, in combat that gets thrown the fuck out pretty quick. If you see a situation that needs killing and you are in a position to do so, you do it. When push comes to shove, he didnt have faith in his crew(rightfully so) and they need to realize they fucked this all up. Also, there might need to be a quick rundown on human warfare because there are at least 30 events in history where a lone man has done some fucky shit because the situation demanded it.

Shorlas Magaskawee

Oh... another thought. The splashback that a certain Nighkru is going to get. Even if she is totally innocent(Which I doubt) this is going to splashback on her I bet. Because for Hela to get into this sort of trade, this sketchy diplomat would be the easiest way to make such connections and be a very convenient point of communication for this project... So sucks to be her right now.

Shorlas Magaskawee

I think you are right here. But also keep in mind, Tisi has only spoken to him in a professional environment so far. She might be down right giddy thrilled and *ahem* moist between the legs as she fangirls over this all herself at the moment. But given their location she has to keep a firm reign on things and project her disappointment in his disobedience. I suspect we will see a very strong change of tone from her as soon as she is out of sight and out of ear shot of another larger crew. Jason is of course still in for one hell of a tongue lashing of course, but I suspect when lurking eyes and ears are no longer an issue he is going to get some very mixed messaging.

Shorlas Magaskawee

Honestly I suspect it won't carry much weight or matter much. I expect she will be all "Why didn't you tell me?!" To which he is likely to respond with "Evidence was weak, you are her friend thus would confront her in a personal capacity rather than a professional, and I already feel guilty I almost killed the person I didn't like much less what would happen if it were you that went in soft instead of hard" and she will grumble... then the subject will drop.

Shorlas Magaskawee

Naaah. I can't see either of those things happening. 6 months ago that may have been in the cards. But... the writing for this story has become less campy and more serious. Pretty sure that has something to do with the fact it's pushing $4,000 a month now. Practically a full time job. Though while the story is less campy now, I am glad as it keeps me interested. But on the other hand, I am glad it was campy to begin with because otherwise it would not have hooked me at the start.

Shorlas Magaskawee

I suspect that in this particular case the reversed gender roles and the weight that carries had little to do with these events. I think it's more the fact that this entire situation literally happened because of him, and he has no reason to respect this military's ability to solve literally any problem ever.

Shorlas Magaskawee

Well, she does have to whip him with the chain of command for a bit to remind him it does exist. He did break about every third rule on his way out the door.

Shorlas Magaskawee

Looks like it's time for Jason and Tisi to take their personal relationship up a level. I am not saying they should fuck, in fact I wouldn't want them to at this point. But certainly think they need to proverbially step outside of uniform in order for him to get a chance to explain why he saw fit to jump ship and go ham. He is fresh out of basic training, and sure he learned unit cohesion there and got a glimpse into respecting command chains. But immediately as he's leaving and the lessons are still fresh it's all destroyed right in front of him by some spoiled brat being able to shit him into the wind and put him on a highly mixed unit ship where the command chain is foggy at best and barely respected at all. Then, the dude ends up finding a problem nobody else seems to see, finds evidence for it, and turns it over to the Interior gal he doesn't like and barely respects. Only for her to run off and in his mind he gets her killed.(We still don't know the results of this for sure. Hell, Interior gal could have been on that 5th ship that turns rogue to help Hela escape and thus died, or could have been on one of the other four and survived.) Add in one of the biggest and most loved HFY tropes, the fact that a human bonds with their crew as family and will break every rule and every law to protect their family. Add on top of that, that Jason largely believes that his brashness and panic in exposing the info about Hela may have been absolutely his fault and you got a guy twice as determined to resolve the issue. Throw onto the pile that this is the first time he has ever seen Tisi presented with a 'crunch' situation so has no idea how she is as a leader, but what he does know is the military tends to make decisions at a crawl so he really has no reason to expect her to come up with an answer or solution in the 15 or 20 minutes they had before she could flee... Plus the 42 lives that were on the line as well. Granted he did not know they were there at the time, but this entire chain of events all happened because he was betting on that. No way he could back off on it after all the shit hit the fan. It is my hope that Jason will say on the crew. But I don't want it to be because the crew demands it, or because Tisi gets her request vetoed by some noble cunt with hurt feelings a hundred planets away. I want it to be because her and Jason set ranks aside, and have a heart to heart. Because she got to see the soul of humanity. I am also eager to see what sort of comedic reactions we get from our resident meek engineer gives. While Jason did just destroy her exo which it sounds like she has spent years working on. (Though I am sure a rather sly messaye from Jason to a certain new admirer on a destroyer could result in a brand new one in the mail) Yet I am sure him going ultra badass with the exo will also play into one or more of her other unexplored fantasies. Then... Yaro. I get the idea that the Rakiri are a very honorbound and warrior like culture so I am sure Yaro is chomping at the bit for another round of alone time with Jason after this. But, perhaps the biggest one for me. I have been wishing to see Kelu get more screen time ever since Jason left that party. I really hope that the rescue of several dozen more Rakiri and answers as to their vanishing numbers will bring Kelu back on screen.

Honestly it’s not as if Tisi had any better plans that wouldn’t ultimately result in the crew dead and/or Jason enslaved. And if he had brought up his own plan with the crew he would be right in not trusting them to trust in him. They would never have let him try to do what he did. Jason was absolutely right to not put his trust in the group here, especially when the group was even entertaining the idea of handing him over. I think Tisi should have taken this as a very serious wake up call to stop underestimating the human rather than a challenge to her position. She doesn’t understand that Jason comes from a place where trust is hard earned, not given by rank.

Justin Eames

How is Tisi going to respond when she finds out Jason is responsible for the interior's interdiction on Hela? He stayed on the Maw out of a sense of responsibility in my head.

OneAngle Heaven

So where to? deaths head commando training with force group orgy to further unit cohesion.

Richard McCain

Jesus... Jason my man.... why did you say that? Tisi already read you the riot act for her own part, what the hell do you think the others will say? Yaros no problem she probably thinks it was the manliest thing ever. Everyone else tho? Smh lol. Though to be fair, they did have a split crew over whether they should give him up.

Mark

I think this was an opportunity for him to describe the dissonance he must feel being in a reverse morality culture. Perhaps to ask how the captain would have acted had their situations been reversed.

Tim Speller

Awwww Tisi noooo :(

Blue Fishcake

Tisi didn't :(

Dirk Wallace

Bruh, he had no reason to trust his crew, though. All they did was debate whether or not to give him up with the little time they had, lol.

Papa Pepperoni

This is the problem with following a series as it's being wrote. I just want to read the entire thing. Thanks for another chapter!
