Blue Fishcake

Except it would be blatantly untrue, given that the governments of Earth have done exactly that :D

Scott Storm

Just my opinion but I think rather than “Tooth & Claw” a better motto representing humanity would be the famous word of Churchill, “Never Surrender!”

Paul Stansel

Glad to see Jason giving fearless to his regiment! (+1VP to anyone who gets this)

Andrew Walseth

Hmm.. I’m guessing the first lieutenant had something to do with acquiring the tanks given her flinch to the Col. announcing they had a “problem”.

Andrew Walseth

“They needed more familiarization with the vehicles . . .” Should that be “less” instead?

Andrew Walseth

“Speed was life” - I certainly hope and assume we are about to introduce the Shiv to Blitzkrieg tactics and combined arms/mechanized infantry. Could use the Exos as Cav Scouts. I also agree with the previous commentators, would be nice to see Jason and Kernathu get to do a field upgrade on a few of those tanks similar to what they did with Ares. I have to admit those sorts of things are a favorite of mine when they work out. (A real world example is what was done to the B25 Mitchell and A20 Havoc by Col. Pappy Gunn to make them such fierce ground attack strafing machines and ship killers in WWII, as shown in the Battle of the Bismarck sea raid on that Japanese troop convoy.) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bismarck_Sea

I like where this is going. This was a true HFY chapter!

As someone who has been listening to far too much Panzarmarsch I can't wait for the Shil'vati to see what Humanity does with Armor. Only thing I want in addition now is some heavy artillery. Maybe rig up a Shil'vati version of the T-34 Calliope. Wouldn't that be fun for them to react too. "THERE ARE 20 RAIL GUNS ON THAT TANK!" Combine that with what people were saying above about Shil'vati being claustrophobic I really want humanity to milk tanks for all they are worth. Although it seems you are hinting towards that already. But one thing to consider is: How much bloody cheaper tanks are. For every mech that the Shil have we could likely have 4+ tanks. That and I would love some stupid moments where humans go hogwild with tanks like this https://youtu.be/kjJpuAsJnes?t=478

no surprise that armored warfare never took off with the shil - their large stature combined with their weird aversion to cramped spaces lead to vehicles so massive that they have a snowball's chance in hell of concealing themselves on the battlefield. the first two layers on the "tank survivability onion" (https://i.redd.it/vrwrcvbu9kn41.png) are "don't get seen" and "don't get acquired", both of which are dependant on a low profile. they should design some new tanks for the human regiment, or even just import some leftover abrams tanks from earth and have them up-armoured and fitted with railguns or big-ass lasers. anything is better than cutting about in tanks that are taller than the average bungalow

Dragoon

I would be surprised if the problem was missiles, we haven't seen many ground based missile or rocket systems and hard kill systems (such as Arena, Trophy, and Afghanit) and ERAs have proven quite effective in modern conflicts. The biggest problem tanks have is in close terrain and in this case I think Humanity has a lot to offer as they have a lot of experience in using tanks in urban environments. Modifications like the TUSK, remote autocannons, and linked firing systems would probably be things outside of Shil'vati doctrine and effective in the likely use case.

I remember a series called STARFIST - that had a dictator create and use super huge tanks... they neutralized them with the "Arrow" Anti-tank launch platform. i forsee problems for the tanker crews... that either Jason in an EXO or Jason somehow engineers a solution.

Vermontsc6

Im just waiting for mechanized infantry..... Nothing stops an iron fist....

Ahem to quote me2 Isaac Newton is the deadliest man in history.

Exec_Jack

I foresee these tanks getting some pretty serious overhauls... After all, an Exosuit can only take so much force, and a railgun definitely delivers a lot of kinetic energy. I'm also getting some serious Mammoth Mk1 Vibes right now...

White Neko Knight

Ah, the good ole Calvary vs Infantry contest. The constant race to which can overcome the other. I highly doubt the tanks they have will be able to overcome Exos, but I doubt that humanity will let them stay that way. It'll be fun to see what sort of death machine they turn those tanks into.

George41

Tank you very much for another chapter

Allen Mainville

They are the Panzer Elite! Born to compete! Never retreat! *Ghost Division*

Thenais

" no go zones" ... oh my, you are totally talking about fox news and Paris are you ? :D

PFC LaPoint

The galaxy is gonna be for a shock to see what humanity is capable of when we're on even footing there are countless stories of death before dishonor in man's history and just as many moments of genius....though a good question though is how were these troops recruited and how many of them are agents of the intelligence community of the world KGB CIA fbi mi6 musad I can imagine that the leadership of such agencies went underground and have been funding and training rebellion groups throughout the world like earlier books said earth is more red no go zones than green

aj0413

Huh. Those men and women are about to be in for a world of culture shock.

Thenais

I so imagine them like the big tank in indiana jones 3

Whitestar60

"Tanks for nothing silly nobles." ;) :D

Reclaimer Bear

I suppose in a limited orbital superiority situation, tanks become your walnut cracker

Shorlas Magaskawee

Beautiful work here.

TwoRavens

I *like* Cleff. I like her a *lot.* And she's right: The rest of the galaxy has no idea what they're about to experience.

aerolyte

Time for tanks to make a comeback
