Saturday Update!

This will be a bit of a simple one, because I technically only completed one image ^^; But it was a very very big image LMAO
Image Completion: 13/734 [ I swear this will pick up speed after the backgrounds are done :wheeze: ]
As you already know, I've been working on the main background for the game! On Thursday I finished the coloring for the daytime version:
Of course, this background is 9x larger than the game screen, so you'll never see it quite like that.
Here's a couple examples of how it actually looks in the game:
On Friday, I started work on the night version of the background. This is going a lot faster, since I was able to start with a base of the day version and a filter over it. Of course, I still need to repaint a lot of surfaces since the lighting isn't coming from the same places.
I've completed the center and the ceiling, but the rest still needs repainting. I don't think that should take TOO long. 2 days at most.

I have actually still been working with my Alpha Testers as well. I was about to finish the testing and close it up, but they keep finding little errors and giving me very good suggestions haha!
Last week, one of them gave me a lovely suggestion to improve one of my endings and use my personality system more, so I took a couple hours to make that happen. It was definitely worth it!
I can report to you that my alpha testers and myself all feel very confident that the script/gameplay has improved SO much from alpha testing.
I think that because I was a lot more clear with what I wanted to improve, my testers had a better foundation to look for and suggest improvements. Not to detract from their actual input of course! I wouldn't have been able to improve anything without their ideas!
Bottom line: I'm very excited for you all to be able to play the game eventually and see just how great the script has become thanks to our teamwork!

Okay, so, there's one last thing. I did screw around a bit with my music too. Just a little. It's very experimental, as I wanted to start learning how to play with vocals [ at least, spoken vocals for now. Not singing ]
The track needs a LOT of work still. Everything is too close together, I'd like to add more melody, etc. I have some solid ideas for it, I just haven't really had much time to work on it between the more vital stuff.
Also, I don't want any tracks with vocals in the gameplay- that's not the vibe I'm going for, but if this experiment somehow comes out actually working, I may put it on the credits page sort of like how I had Gore by Graveyardguy on the TPOF credits page. Or maybe I could throw it into some hypothetical OST as extra flavour. I dunno. But for now, I'm just experimenting and trying to learn new things :) [ unfinished track is an attachment at bottom of this post ]

Anyway, that's about all I have for you this week! Sorry the background art is taking so long haha! It won't be too much longer until I'll be churning out sprites :D

I am soooo excited for this game. The background is beautiful and the music! Oh my god, I love the voice, it would so amazing to hear some lines in the game, and when you do not hear them gives even more vibe to it! And I love the saw machine sounds, it fits in perfectly. I`m so excited for the game!

Once again, seeing Strade's world come alive around him is making me so excited!! I wanna lick those backgrounds. :3 And I'm so happy to hear that so many good developments have come from the alpha testing! It's got me practically running in circles in excitement! Also that Feel Something track do be making me feel something. :D

Oh man, that large version bg is sooooooo cool!!! I wish we had the chance to see it in all its glory within the game! It just looks so awesome. But then seeing the zoomed in sections with Strade! I can only imagine how it will look once we're able to look around the basement while playing! AND music updates too! Awesome. I'm glad you're experimenting and still seem soooo excited to learn how to do all these things and see just what kind of tracks you can create for your game! It's understandable that the bar is filling up slowly since backgrounds definitely take some time, but I also can't wait to see that baby fill up as you hit the easier/faster sprites!!! YAY!

the background work you've done for the basement is amazing! you can tell a lot of skill and hard work went into it and making sure you get the details just right! i'm also so blown away with the music! i know you said it has some more work before it's done but it already sounds awesome lol i'll admit i've listened to some of the songs you're still workin on in my free time because they just so good!

Woah... the 2nd draft of Feel Something gave me chills. π Something about this song's words just makes me want to psychoanalyze Strade further. The song reminds me of an earlier screenshot of Strade talking about how people design machines with specific intentions, and how those intentions can reveal the core "ugly" facets/values of that individual or society. (At least, that's what I took from that monologue.) I just love that gap of how Strade comes off as very "blue collar" (ie. people underestimate him and assume he's stereotypically simple/unintelligent), but then he makes observations like those while also *creatively* making the protag's life a living hell! π (Maybe I am making this deeper than it really is, but I just love approaching any art medium from that sort of lens. π) The fact that your game also has a personality system makes my inner "social scientist" excited. π It'll be fun to play around with different personas in-game and see how it flavors the text/endings. Anyhow, I like your amount of thought and care put into the backgrounds' lighting. Although it can be a pain to find references/study the differences between "day" and "night" environments, it truly adds to the atmosphere and sense of immersion to a game. Keep having fun and being awesome, Gato!

The daytime basement is gorgeous! I really love the colors and how it feels a bit warm! I love the shiny bits on all the metal surfaces too! o3o The Nighttime basement is really beautiful! The music almost gives me a nightmare sequence kind of sound. It's haunting, almost like a reflection of what he's doing to the PC! Then waking up to one of the tool sounds in a sudden start... It's a brilliant piece of music!

The background looks so good! Im actually surprised with how organised Strade keeps his basement. If I could share a quick idea? Don't do it if it'll make things look messy or if it wouldn't transfer well visually but maybe you could outline the tools in something that looks like a marker? I know when my grandpa was a MDT teacher he would outline all his tools incase a student tried to steal one, so he'd know instantly.
