but also I do really love the way Du Shik reacts when Hye Jin's father apologizes to him. He has every right to be offended but doesn't puff up or play it off, he speaks about her and the good heart he sees in them both. It's a lovely touch.

The orphan thing is as far as I know an Asian thing. At least it is a thing in China as well. If someone loses their parents it is considered they are bad luck and will bring that bad luck with them. I’m not sure how prevalent it is today but in the past it was very common to shun someone who lost their parents.
