Michael

I agree with Phoenix. So far, the princess, and maybe others, can deduce that he MOST LIKELY has a legendary class, but as long as he doesn't confirm or deny anything, there is always at least a little doubt about his capabilities. By fleeing when confronted with that deduction, he will make himself MORE interesting to those in power, not less, and someone will eventually figure out that he has not JUST a legendary class. Even for being a legendary class, he isn't really strong enough himself, politically, to guarantee his freedom while also being a public persona, much less for a mythic class holder. So he needs either obscurity, a stronghold, or allies that could stand up to the king, to be safe. Strong enough allies who don't want to tie him down themselves are difficult to find and bring into his trust. A stronghold means isolation, as he laid out. Which leaves obscurity as the only avenue left at this moment if he doesn't want to give up his few allies and ties. Even if that obscurity is somewhat reduced, thus weakening that defense, it is still more palatable for him than total isolation. You don't have to share his view, but it is consistent with his personality. I am not a people person and would personally opt for isolation As Phoenix pointed out, there is also the question of what people are willing to do about him. Fleeing to Asmuisil during a war would very likely provoke a different response, e.g. overkill by assassins, than being someone who might still be persuaded to work for someone. What he most needs is time to get stronger, and by being vague about his status and staying put, he can get more of that in favorable conditions than if he left.

I agree, the reasons mentioned are complete bullshit. Thinking he can continue hiding when the princes has just shown how all the nobles monitoring each other know what happened, it's guaranteed others will arrive at the same conclusion the princess has. The secret is already out in the open. Moving to Asmuisil would always be safer in an unchanged situation. The one reason he really has to remain in Etrua is that he can steal mana from the nobles there with a clear conscience, which wouldn't be the case in Asmuisil or other "fairer" countries. It actually is a decent reason, but that aspect of it is never mentioned. I see the princess becoming his backer, hopefully an actual backer he can't just ignore as a lackey and can finally hammer some realistic political sense in him and Kiri.

Princess: I am here 4 #reformation #trustme. Y r u here? Nate: Sister. Princess: Y ur sister here? Nate: Girlfriend. Princess...: Y her girlfriend here? Nate: Hmmmm.... Princess: Hmmmm... Readers: HMMMMM 😶...

Kanyau

Hopefully, so is he.

Phoenix Trinity

I don't think it's a false dilemma, unless he wants to become a public figure to some degree he WILL require more powerful allies. He is FAR too POTENTIALLY powerful to be allowed to exist in a different economy from the perspective of the etruan nobility at large, I am quite sure he would face increasingly potent assassination attempts. He must exist here not because etrua is better but because he has pre existing allies with FAR lower expectations than allies formed at his current level. I don't believe his actions to this point were UNREASONABLE, and now he's here, he's sorta locked himself in.

Sondadir

He has already almost admitted to having legendary class. The princess know and he can not deny it. You gave etrua nobility power that they do not have. They do not have the power to hunt him beyond their border, and the aventurer Guild is present in countries where the nobility is not wary against them. He can move on at basicaly no cost for him. Etrua is the proverbial snake den and is only true tie to it is Kiri's girlfriend.

Mark Corwin

Clearly. He puts up with the petty nobles way too much. 🤣

Michael

Your premise is wrong. It's not about a compromise with Etruan nobility or isolation, it's about confirmation of his class quality. If he flees in this situation, he practically confirms he is at least a legendary class and afraid of someone knowing. There is almost no chance of this information staying secret, since keeping it secret is no longer in the princess's interest. It would lead to a manhunt for him, other noble houses would join in, etc. This is what would lead to his forced isolation if he wants to stay free. And not just in Etrua. News like that would follow him outside Etrua if confirmed. Maybe it wouldn't be nobility trying to kill, enslave, or otherwise tie him down, but someone would. If he doesn't flee, that might still happen, but he has a chance to prevent it by not confirming his class quality or otherwise preventing the spread of information.

My guess is Royalty

Random Information

Nate is NOT American.

Knightfire

Hopefully she is smart enough to have the clues to not trust the girlfriend

Mark Corwin

Exactly. I hope he calls B.S. on the princess and let's her die when she gets poisoned. Then takes out the rest of the Nobility. Is he even an American if he doesn't kill off all the people who got their based on wut vagina they came out of. 😆 🤣 😂

Sondadir

I understand that the author wants to close the door to Nat's emigration, but his reasons are not realistic. The false dilemma between a compromise with the nobles or a life of isolation at the fringes of society is caricatural. He could just settle in Asmuisil with Kiri and Luc and continue his growth without interruption from corrupt nobility.

Bosparan

Thanks for another, very interesting character :) Really curious what that unidentified concept is ... Mind? Truth? Makes you really wonder, whether she actually IS honest, or merely well informed on how to influence Nate...
