Secret Weapons

Sorry which assassination team are you referring to? If its the first one they faced, they barely saw the Platinum, the Eternal Grove tied him up while they fought the Golds. If its the second one which was aimed at the Princess. It was more of the same, they fought and kicked the Gold's asses in a separate fight. Then Nate and Kiri, and the Princess and her maid, all fought against Topaz and barely got her to flee. Topaz fled from overwhelming numbers, thats not exactly a powerful defeat. The portion of the fight where it was just Nate and Kiri vs. Topaz saw them getting seriously overpowered, it wasn't even close. They needed the Princess' massive sound attack and Nate finding a specific weakness and exploiting it to even obtain the weak victory they had. That's what I'm talking about. Jason has articulated what I was getting at well in his message... this system seems heavily flawed if you need to pause like this and/or are then heavily restricted by rules if you can crack above Mythic.

Jason Hardman

It's a dangerous trap for a LitRPG author to stagnate his characters, when one of the key draws is the numbers go up element. But it's also tricky to keep control of excessive power creep. The world they live in seems to be limited to a certain upper level of power that people struggle to exceed. Plus the progression beyond Mythic seems weird, although not fully revealed yet. If beings breaking into divinity while still low in level is possible, and that restricts them, even though there are epic and legendary classers stronger than them, then why would you bother. It's a flawed system that way, so there's got to be something more going on.

Aaron Schwartz

I’m not sure where you get that conclusion. They defeated an assassination team led by a platinum a few chapters ago before the coup kicked off by themselves. I’m pretty sure that’s what made the princess confront them about probably being legendarys. And while they haven’t advanced for a while, they also haven’t been in as much combat. Nate didn’t actually fight in the war. It was mostly just the ambush than the assassination attempt and then clearing a few mooks off the street when they got back to the capital. This is just the consequences of reading the story at the pace that an author can put it out chapter by chapter the last mega action scene was maybe three-5 chapters ago, but it seems like a long time because for us it’s been a couple of weeks

Mark Corwin

Okay. That was actually cool. Tftc.

Secret Weapons

I'd argue his superiority complex is ALWAYS going to come first. He can preach his might makes right crap all he wants, but he needed a team of helpers and specifically attuned Dungeon Core gauntlets to negate and then knock off his old man.... if he truly believed his so called doctrine, then he should've been able to over power him via his own flawless evolution and power without any additional assistance, no? He's full of shit and a hypocrite lol its not exactly rare for dictators like this haha

Secret Weapons

Tftc! lol what a rube. Bordain thinks he's a god, laying down some almighty gauntlet in front of two minor annoyances and just lets them go. Meanwhile they're already at Mythic and will someday soon be a significant pain in the ass bare minimum.... I hope he can look back on this moment and curse himself before too long. That being said... the lack of progression for Kiri and Nate is starting to get annoying. They are in a weird gray area where they can dick slap Golds around by the dozen... yet they don't have the power of even a Platinum yet combined between them. Story seems to be setting up for them to delay their second evolution EVEN LONGER... its already been too long man. They haven't had significant growth in like dozens and dozens of chapters. To the point where the combat, which has always been a highlight of the story, is sort of getting boring now... and given the war they basically find themselves in, them delaying their evolution like this just doesn't make any sense. They know they need more power, but keep putting it off for every other chore or task possible.

Avdrdr

One well placed disruption of the mana network and the dungeon would probably die, no mythic for him

Kato68

Depents on what came first: His superiority complex or his might makes right mentality. Also whatever his embodiment is.

Aaron Schwartz

Normally, if that were to happen, he’d just threw a hissy fit, because they only ever cared about getting what they wanted. But with the way he’s acting, and how he genuinely seems to believe that his rule would be a benefit to the kingdom and it’s people, I think he genuinely believes in the law of the strong to such an extent that if he were to learn about Nate’s class, the cognitive dissonance between his “morals” and his ego and ambition would drive him to have some kind of psychotic break

VioletSummit

What I've really noticed the past few chapters was your stronger pacing, you're hitting the beats so well without rushing or boring the reader, great work!

Sam

I wonder what he would think if he knew that Nate and Kiri were already Mythic

Aaron Schwartz

What did I tell you? Adorable and naïve. No one who’s that bad at reading people has what it takes to rule a country. He should realize that no one who went to the effort that they did to stop a slaving operation would ever accept his philosophy or rule, since slavery of the week is a natural extension of it. He didn’t even seem to realize that they view him taking their friends hostage as an unforgivable sin. If I were him, I’d still be trying to get them to work for me, but I at least acknowledge what I’ve done. That’s the core of it I think. He doesn’t just believe that Might makes right. He believes that might means there are no consequences for your actions, or if there are then you can just punch them. That is genuinely insane.

Raymond Mouton

Thanks for the chapter.
