Goodness y'all... he's still doing pretty well for a kid from the 'burbs. Would you have run the battle differently? I know I would have.. but we've got different skills and perspectives to work from. All in all, thanks for the chapter.

Aaron Schwartz

How can he ascend with a broken embodiment? He is not supreme. Someone who reigns supreme does not battle, they crush, they annihilate. The longer the enemy is able to resist the less supreme you are. I get that he can delude himself into thinking he’s supreme, but he can’t ascend unless reality agrees with his assessment, and I don’t see why it would

Chapter was fun, I liked his use of logic to create a rune to counter her gravity defense... that being said, him standing there scratching his ass while watching the Gem Mage set up, completely understanding what was happening... and doing fuck all to stop it was beyond stupid. He has the spacial skills to have easily messed up her formation, but instead he just let her do it while thinking it was cool. Sometimes Nate acts like a complete boob, despite his supposedly high Intelligence stat. At least have him attempt to disrupt her, even if it fails. Makes him look like less of an idiot. Also seems ridiculous that he doesn't know the skills of the people he will be teamed to fight with. You could easily reveal the skills the same way, just have him remember how it was explained to him rather than have him guessing with no clue. The "I can't be beat if I prep" guy, would probably have ASKED before the battle what Null and Brittany could now do roughly.

Yes, that story's premise and the system are both well-designed and thought out, but the combat feels as if Nate repeats the same mistakes over and over, and I cannot remember any major fight where he wasn't completely oblivious to his enemies' tricks before they happened. Which to be fair trying to prepare for someone you've never seen in a fight is very difficult, but it remains weird how he always praises himself for how prepared he is when he clearly didn't do any preparations at all besides the bare minimum for maintaining/recreating his preferred equipment. And the few times he does prepare for his enemies, it's always just one or two. Like in this fight, he had a perfect counter for Obsidian, but why did he prepare shit-all for Verian and Bordain, despite both being known as even stronger? Would it have killed him to prepare some general anti-body Enhancement when everyone knows Bordain likes attacking in Melee? Like a life-draining rune Enhanced by the body Sigil or stuff so that it temporarily siphons strength/physical stats. We KNOW he can do that due to his insights from the champion armor research. And Verian being an Elementalist was common knowledge already. Nate even claims for himself to be a battlefield-controlling fighter, so why not prepare something to counter Elemental spells? Then hand that to Aisling, who has the Mana to power it like Luc did for the space one, and exclude lightning. Super easy preparation that would have made the most dangerous foes so much easier, and Amethyst even showed that she could do the same for his gravity. I find these fight exasperating more than anything, and they're definitely this novel's weakspot.

Nate always just feels so passive in fights with the justification being that he is thinking on how to counter something. But theres no reason he shouldnt be doing both and should have thought about these things before hand anyway. you always write as if Nate's strength is prepping for fights and then he always comes up with the solution in the moment anyway. thats how it comes across to me anyway.

Sometimes Nate do some actions not befitting his intelligence and leader role. How does he go to a battle without know the skills of his main allies, like Britt's e Null's embodiment and new classes? The visual of Amethyst finalization scene was great, but why he didn't destroyed the structure of the enchantment before it consolidate, cause he knew what she can do before the battle.

Sondadir

My thought exactly, he doesn't know the limitations he will be subject to. The punitions for punching down his a restriction on his class cores and skills. That's fatal, why would you stop him from shooting his own foot ?

Zack

Nate's gonna blow up the palace, isn't he. That is gonna be epic.

Jason Hardman

At the start there Nate was far too passive, not even contesting his opponent as she moved to set the area to her own benefit.

Jason Hardman

If anything Bordain ascending will work against him. As long as nobody attacks him, he'll be punching down and suffer the system's wrath. Plus he's going to draw the attention of lesser divines that he won't be prepared for. It'll be important for Nate and Kiri to keep their heads low if some lesser divine turns up though.

I don’t get why he didn’t even try to teleport her gems out of the formation. Even if she has a skill to block it, it states he can feel their locations so Nate should’ve at least tried that.

Thanks for the chapter.
