Hues Of Blue

The hints that Christine is a trans woman have already been overt, but this chapter pretty much settles the matter.

Catamony

It’s sorta funny, this is the second (?) Thandamoo protagonist who just can’t pick up on others being trans.

hhttghlk

Cats actually CAN talk https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_KEZXuqViI0

Julia Niles

I'm having a bad week and having another chapter would was and would be amazing, thank you for being an amazing writer.

Anna

Man, Compton better never step a foot on an active battlefield, I feel like there's probably several dozen frag grenades with his name on it on any given firing line.

extantCadence

Honestly surprised anyone so deep into reading Thundamoo stories that they're a patreon supporter would phrase that sentiment that poorly (Gabriel Melnik). Also, you're wrong, and it's literally said in this very chapter that Julietta has never gotten a scan on Christine due to her sheer domain density.

Sindri

Christine is also very opposed to the idea of somebody shortening her name to 'chris'. Julietta interpreted that as not liking nicknames in general, but I can't help but wonder if she would have been fine with 'tina'.

Not a Bird of Prey

Good to hear you are feeling better, and great chapter! I mean, I hated reading it, but that’s because you are a good writer

Sindri

Yeah, but it's heavily implied that a mind controlled super is much less effective than one operating under their own free will. If you had somebody with a useless power that was just gonna end up as a domain umbrella for a squad of real soldiers that probably wouldn't matter, but Christine's power is both ludicrously deadly and has a heavy mental component to it. Also her domain density is enough that even Julietta can't peek through it, so keeping her under mind control would be *extremely* expensive. (To clarify, I'm not saying that Thunda screwed up, I'm saying that the military in-setting is doing things in a highly unwise and inefficient way and it's probably a significant part of why they're losing this war, which is actually very realistic)

mike

John Cena: Are you SURE about that!? Lol who is to say completely deconstructing a person's brain and then slapping it back together wouldn't erase memories or have some other effects. If just repairing the structure of the mind was enough wouldn't Julia have full access to other peoples memories?

TroubleFait

Basic psychology is probably the most important discipline for the future of humanity, we don't give it enough attention.

TroubleFait

A true "is it even worth it" moment.

TheBotler

Welcome back, thank you for the chapter

Vincebourgh

It's the same with compliments btw. As a teacher or parent you shouldn't say to a child/teen "you're a natural!" Because when the child inevitably fails at something then the way they view themselves is disturbed which is not great to put it mildly. It can lead to a bunch of psychological issues like imposter syndrom, depression, anxiety etc etc. Instead a guardian should compliment the actions as "brilliant", "well thought" etc.

Webwoven

Remember, in this scenario "washing out" doesn't mean losing access to that power, it means you get shipped off to another base where they have mind-control powers and just use them on you for, I assume, the rest of your life.

CamChains

tftc glad you’re feeling better!

Lucy Severine

'Biological male' isn't a good way of putting that, or accurate.

Gabriel Melnik

To be honest I haven't seen anything that pegs her as a biological male and Juliette should be able to sniff that out in a heartbeat, given her power.

CaylaCat

oh gosh, and no one has been more adamant that Julietta not percieve her with her power..

dotAlice

I can't speak for every branch, but for some, in the past decade and a half or so, there have been big pushes in how recruits are treated in boot. Specially, insults have heavily shifted towards action focus rather than personal focus i.e. "that was a stupid thing to do" vs "you're stupid", mostly because personally focused insults rarely have any actual positive impacts, while action based more frequently leads to improvement. It's interesting to see how that's not quite the same as how history progressed in this version of earth.

Qaysed

some hints. The way she talks about her medication makes it pretty plausible hormones are included, it's really important to her that nobody sees her naked in any way, and there's some comments she made. The one that I remember most is that many of the people she knows would kill for Julietta's power

Lako

"I wasn't going to kill him, I can put things back together again" is such a great line. Thanks for the chapter!

Lucy Severine

Oh, have we seen signs that Christine is One Of Us? Beyond, yknow, being a dysfunctional depressant with serotonin difficulties, lol. But yeah I haven't really twigged that previously, maybe I missed it?

CobaltStellite6

My guess is transphobic slurs. When it dawned on me, I was LIVID.

Lucy Severine

I'm idly wondering what kind of slurs the guy even went with. Homophobic? Anti-semitic? Good chapter! Glad to see you back and doing a bit better!

I feel like maybe I should be worried about how closely her drill sergeant's performative ranting matches up with what Julietta's been thinking all along but too tactful to say out loud. But mostly I'm laughing at it. Significantly less funny is the other sergeant's total lack of self preservation. If the Major is already aware of their degree of bigotry... I guess you can't exactly discharge them when literally everybody over 18 is being drafted, but they should at least be assigned somewhere else. And the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that treating people with powers like normal recruits is a bad plan. A big part of the classic boot camp experience is not just to condition most of your recruits into good little killing machines, but also to filter out the people who aren't going to be compatible with the standards of a modern soldier. Anywhere from 6-15% of recruits fail basic training in a modern military, and Christine would probably be one of those. That's an attrition rate which is totally acceptable for basic mooks, but it's something you cannot afford with powers like hers.

extantCadence

Great chapter. Thank you. I think this was the least pleasant chapter of this story yet. Probably because I think I can imagine more or less exactly what was going down with that sergeant.

Lorenskye

Remember comrades: save the last bullet for your commander

Haven't read the chapter yet, but glad to hear you're feeling better
