Quazzy

absolutely AWESOME chapter, ty! Immediately showing this one to some of my friends

Sindri

Against ordinary unpowered humans, her own self restraint is the only thing stopping her. But against other entities with their own Domains, she would need to either overpower them completely (which is much harder to do if they pull back to defend just their own thinky bits while she's trying to stretch out beyond her own body), or convince them to let her in (which is probably harder for them to do if she's poking at their seat of consciousness than it is for just tweaking extremities)

Marquess

I'd imagine the majority of 'villains' simply don't want to fight. The military obviously doesn't want them to remain idle, though, and treating them all like hostiles does wonders for their employee retention statistics.

Marquess

If it works, then that same arrogance will have to contest people's mental workings, too. Juliette has quite a bit of... experience, with how altering someone's brain changes them as a person. If she can "fix" someone's body, what stops her from "fixing" their minds, too?

Keith Rice

Do villains do damage? Beyond not fight the fight? It certainly seems like people are worried about aliens first and other humans with powers basically not at all.

TeaGeek

Yeah, though she was able to connect her body to her meat plants well enough for nerve control before, so I don’t think it would be a big deal for her.

Marine Psychologist

Huh. That thesis paper of self reflection felt a little out of place in between two lines there. It didn’t seem like the conversation in the room actually had a pause, just that she suddenly elaborated on several ideas we’ve seen her already touch on pretty directly, but this time at significant length, at what boils down to minimal prompting. Not bad writing, the content of it was decent, but the range of emotions and just the disconnect from what you’re physically describing and it’s temporal pacing felt a bit jarring.

anonymous wildfire

Yeah, I can’t see Anastasia being totally okay with fighting non-aliens. (The Avatar’s group was considered criminals by the Fire Nation, but they were obviously still the good guys. Where’s Uncle Iroh when you need him to work out this moral dilemma? lol)

anonymous wildfire

It does align with a lot of what she was saying this chapter. The arrogance to think she knows better. Why couldn’t that extend to knowing better about how their body should be? She already has all the tools, she just needs to cross that gap between manipulating behaviors and manipulating bodies. A little fucked up, but that’s what we’re here for.

Sindri

I don't remember if she ever got a scan of Rafflesia before the old arm came off, but a mirror image of her remaining arm should be really easy to put together. And we know Julietta can copy cellular markers well enough to make her blood count as Anastasia's, so compatibility shouldn't be an issue. The only question is the attachment point, especially getting the nerves wired up...

pheonix89

So they're sending Anastasia to fight other humans. Wow. This just increases my confidence the crew is gonna go rogue, especially after Julietta's comments on legal vs moral

Sindri

Regardless of motive, getting powerful new capes trained to prevent collateral damage and get through hostage situations is definitely a good idea.

Sindri

Ever since she overrode Peter's domain during their sparring match I've been pretty sure that all flesh within her domain counts as *hers* and only reverts to belonging to other people when she lets go of it. So healing (or biosculpting anyway) should be something she can do, at least outside of other people's brains. Plus I think one of the prerequisites for being a new Queen is the ability to turn the chosen of your god into Angels. I'm sorta skeptical of her ability to carry other living things inside meatspace though, after she accidentally digested two different sets of radio equipment while trying specifically to not do that.

Sindri

The really fun thing about the placebo effect is that it still works even when you know that you're taking a placebo. Just felt relevant to the whole talk between Julietta, Emily, and Christine. Rafflesia's arm feels narratively significant. Like, maybe fixing that is what's going to push Seraphim to figuring out that when she extends her domain over part of somebody else she can sculpt their flesh because it's "hers"? But I have no idea how she would bring the topic up, even if she has the idea. 'Hey, do I have your consent to take total dominion over part of your body and do something disturbingly intimate to it that will have permanent life altering consequences? I've never done this before and I dunno if it will work, but it's probably dangerous and *definitely* gross.' No, more likely the first time she tries to reshape somebody else will be because somebody she loves is dying. Maybe Maria.

Lina Hutchisson

I'm so hyped for this arc ohhhhhh em geeeee

TroubleFait

Hesistate means stating your hesitation. Hesitaste means tasting it. I wonder what other wonderful things Julietta can do with hesitation.

Ketzer2314

Well the queen sayed she could be the first human queen. And I think her offensiv power is to high to hold er off of the front lines. Aside from the "healing" she has can communicate with the aliens and by this get the position of enemys and saw chaos. Sometimes even influence them to do stuff. Who knows what happens if she meets non insane aliens.

Marquess

I’d assume that means they’re both R-0, like Juliette.

Marquess

Upgrading people would certainly be worth checking out. Aliens have engineered biology, why shouldn’t the humans? It’s unlikely she’d get sent to the front lines again if the military found out about it. Aside from the regenerator, I can’t recall any other healers being mentioned. … and staying at base, healing injuries and changing the physical form of soldiers sounds a hell of a lot like something a queen would do.

fennek

Is it to he government tactic to make the most likely villain candidates into anti villain squads? To show them what damage villains do. And also let them fight each other instead of risking good government dogs? The procog thing open doors at all kinds of shenanigans. Especially if most precogs are driven by fear or other emotions

TeaGeek

Okay, maaaaybe feeling a bit called out by Julietta here regarding manipulation-style masking to make people feel more comfortable… I wonder if she could grow a copy of Rafflesia’s arm that won’t reject that can be attached with her meat plant tendrils subdermally?

AgeOldCure

I bet she can replace the missing arm. Just use her authority to claim the stump, then grow a new arm for her before removing her authority. Same as making blood for Anastasia to use.

jthrr

Hesitaste might be better, yeah

Ledabot

As always, awesome stuff. I'm really trying to think a way around emilys situation, and I just can't come up with a plan they could do, but I think it's really trapped all my brain cells. I think it's very interesting.

Ketzer2314

That's an interresting thought. With the own tissue there is no rejection and if she uses the recipients own cells to make upgrades it should theoretically be possible to upgrade other people.

Nimps

I think she can only do that if she copied the original though right? Otherwise it won't be the same... I guess she could upgrade it though?

Lako

Thanks for the chapter!

Nait02

I don't remember much about the truthteller, but I am pretty sure Emily said at some point she keeps her domain stretched out as far and thin as possible to be unnoticed, since her power isn't affected anyway...

Sam

Did Julietta get a good idea of how long it would take to clean up the entire queen? I know that she mentioned being unable to see the "more interesting parts", is her expectation that the queen would be totally removed before she could have any chance at seeing more of it? Having precognative factors in the government makes decisions and requests sort of confusing.

Ketzer2314

Hmm I am thinking for a few chapters, that Julietta should be able to heal other people. Especially the lost arm... I think she can shape her body over the stump connect to the nerves with its own tissue and sever that arm to restore it. And I wonder if she can bring living beings into her storage. We'll only time will tell^^ thanks for the great chapter :D

DireGoat

Great chapter. and thank you for the the art.

Jakub Ligęza

I'm time and time again surprised that it takes Julietta so much time and repeated exposure to figure out (after the fight with Peter) that she should be able to just reshape other people. Though personally I'm mostly salivating over the prospect of her figuring out how to be more than one body at a time.

Glitter Rabbit (C)

Thank you! I love your current stories so much

TheBotler

Found a typo, hesitate has an extra s in it. Thank you for the hard work and the chapter! Till next time! (I hesistate, staring at her intently to try and determine if this is something she's genuinely worried about or just a deflection tactic. But unfortunately, I think it might be the former. And she's right; Emily will be able to handle a few months of me leaving her alone and making sure Maria doesn't die)

Bi-Dailey

Summer Coff

Hey, they got a "Good work in St Louis"! That's, like, a kind of not-sarcastic compliment from an authority figure! Julietta, hit that dopamine! Manually!

Flying Goat

Thanks for the chapter! Random thought: I hadn't noticed it before, but Emily's and the Objective Truth Entity (whose gender I can't recall) both have powers that work on people outside their domain - at least I think think Julietta had her domain suppressed in her encounter with The Truth. Admittedly, with the latter, I guess sound waves do enter their domain.

ThePersonWhoIsPerson

soooo excited for the anti-villain squad vs Defenders of Nothing interaction !!
