Thanks for the chapter!

TheBotler

This story is so good, such a good chapter.

I don't know you personally thundamoo, but maybe hearing this will help. Take whatever breaks you need/want, whenever you need/want. I love your writing and want to read more, but if it's between your mental health and never reading anymore of your content, I would rather you pick your mental health. I am a patreon not because of future content, but because I enjoyed your past content so much I wanted to give you more. The future content is just a bonus. Thank you for the work U have done.

M. Gunnarsson

If the preservers really arent evil, they're really incompetent, huh? Like, bro, you don't understand humans, you got a bunch of traumatized human children on your hands, and the idea of asking an adult human how to handle that didn't occur to you?

ScarletIce

Exactly. I forget exactly which character brought it up before, but even with adults actually making for less powerful Magicals, they would still be the better option. The combination of having a fully developed brain combined with mundane support and backup should more than make up for the diminished magic. And as far as going inside the portals goes, just don't? Doesn't really seem worth it.

j4p

Melpomene also said something about how Luna’s soul should have protected her from it for a while, but didn’t because her soul was unusually empty due to her depression.

j4p

I thought it said Minerva’s fear spells were more accurate due to fear of hurting her friends, but with Fulgora’s anger mixed in the spells became less accurate and thus came uncomfortably close to hurting their allies at least a couple of times.

DireGoat

if they asked for human opinions there wouldn't be any kids fighting

ScarletIce

It's becoming more and more apparent to me that the whole evil rebellion probably wouldn't exist if the defenders were just more willing to work closely with human experts, particularly psychologists.

o11o1

I also notice the care not to let other people know, particularly Castalia. Keeping intel siloed, avoiding people connecting all the dots.

Nemes

"If they aren't insane, then why would we need to fight!?" oof. deeply troubling statement... I do think I believe uma'tama when they say they don't understand humans. That's not to say they aren't manipulative or knowingly doing things that aren't in the humans' best interest, but I think they legit don't know how to get the result they want from this situation with the colliding worlds and are making things worse for everyone involved.

Quazzy

I shudder to think of what happens when the Preservers *actually* grant someone power.

Flaming Cat

She is called a 'war criminal' because she killed US troops in Iraq, probably including surrendering soldiers (which is a warcrime). This was after her parents were killed by US troops, despite them being civilians.

meow

if they really just want to negotiate i feel like there are probably better ways to do that than essentially sending an armed warrior to their home. i get the impression that thea might even willingly leave if they just promised not to mess with her, but maybe that is not really what the preservers want. uma'tama said they want to bring them back, so maybe not just back to earth, but back into their care/control? "we will make you strong" is pretty omnious. iirc castalia said something about that much strength coming from being "broken", and another time said it could come from "clarity or insanity". i've noticed that the preservers seem to feel joy or love in all the scenes they've been in. are they actually unable to feel any 'negative' emotions, or something? i wonder if they tried to do something like that to the antipathy. or maybe it's just to help them groom humans.

Flaming Cat

Why would the Preservers understand Dark World corruption well? They don't seem like the sort of society to continue to throw their members into a zone of certain death just to better understand how it works. And if they send their own sealed artifacts to scout the place they would only find out how the fog effects the locals, not how it effects outsiders.

meow

they're telling minerva & fulgora "secrets" they can't tell anyone else, which means they can't really talk about this with anyone else other than uma'tama. and making them feel like they are 'special' since they are in some position to help them in a way even castalia isn't?

Summer Coff

Probably "yeah, that sounds like something they'd do"

Pie Formation

Remember also what was said about casting with anger: anger spells are more focused, with *less* collateral damage, because they actively target the people you're angry at.

Alessio Mocci Guicciardi

Minerva is a great leader, protecting the life of your companions is more important than winning a battle, you can always fight another day

Jackson Andrews

totally unrelated, but i’d love to hear your impression of monster hunter wilds!

Qaysed

I think the "war criminal" designation almost certainly comes from what she did in Iraq. Perhaps it is simply the fact that she fought humans there, perhaps she attacked civilians, or did something worse.

Kelly Chan

Uma'tama definitely seems fishy. Probably only telling half the truth kinda thing about how the corruption and miasma works. Really hope Luna gets some hint about the magical girls having fought with one of her friends the previous day. Wonder what she'd think.

Carter Jessup

Fair point yeah, but she did something to earn that war crime comment right? Not a damn thing on the war crime list that ain’t fucked if she’d done it. And i totally agree with your psychological profile of her. I wasn’t picturing her ruthlessly slaughtering children though. I was implying more along the lines of collateral damage stuff in war. Magical girls blow buildings up during fights. Easy to become a child murderer with non selective attacks like that. Especially like that rancorous dirge one? Using that in a warzone? How far away could that be heard? Especially in an urban environment? How many sheltering people would be exposed to the sound when shes playing with the intent to attack soldiers? Plus, shes gotta have fought some other earth guardians to the death before. Like whatever ones must have been sent in to stop her from defending her home country from the US? Who knows of that happened. Maybe I’m super wrong and her war crimes are all just bs allegations, but I mean I just wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t at all her first attempted kid squishing considering her whole vibe you know?

jthrr

Could be an organization somewhere, branch of the government, etc

jthrr

"We know you have no training in negotiation... and terrorist negotiation is an entire field with lots of experts but we only talk to kids and don't know about that... so we'll make you a more powerful fighter!" 😭

jthrr

I don't think she's killed a lot of kids, actually — they've talked about what happened (when Castalia was so badly wounded, etc), and we don't have all the details, but something like "slaughtered a lot of children" would not be idly forgotten. I think she's not running because they've *been* doing that, for years, while the Earth Guardian kids keep attacking with lethal force and getting stronger. It'll kill someone, someday, and Nanaya has no wish to kill kids, but prefers it to one of her own dying. Basically "I'm telling you to stop attacking me, there will be terrible consequences if you don't stop" and they don't stop. And it seems to have gotten through, this time, with no one dying (thanks to Minerva, just barely).

Lucy Severine

Eyy great resolution to that scene! And good to have you back, though well done on resting properly!!

Catamony

Hmm, Uma’Tama seems to be playing some long game here. Question is, what truth can we as readers glean from this? Is this grooming? Before this Uma’Tama is pretty careful about creating a rift of distrust between those with information (corrupted) and those without (magical girls), and was doing the same with Thea, at least to some degree. Luna hopefully will prove a wildcard capable of learning what information discrepancies exist…

Nait02

I didn't expect waking up to a chapter. Glad to see that the break helped xD

extantCadence

Hmmm... Uma'tama implied at the cafe that the reason they couldn't solve the issue themselves was because they're too big and powerful by nature that they're worried about causing even more problems, but here they suggest it's because the Antipathy would destroy them if they ever entered the dark world. While they're not irreconcilable and can both be true, it seems like at least one of them is just a bad excuse. Which is it, Uma?

extantCadence

Remember that it's being in an incarnate form that gives the most protection, alongside being a child. Luna had no incarnate form AND was old enough to not be a child, so essentially didn't have any protection.

Carter Jessup

Amaterasu called her a 'war criminal.' We've gotten some references to her being a terrorist; not just a run-of-the-mill rogue child soldier, and like, Imma go out on a limb here and guess that means she's killed a lot, of kids. Like a-lot-a-lot-a-lot of kids.

Skitterdidnothingwrong

Absolutely insane what the preservers are putting these kids through. Aurora's mom has every right to be furious. Also, like wtf Nanaya?! Can you not just run? She’s actually willing to murder 10 year olds

Olly

What Uma says about Dark World corruption at least partially explains Luna's first exposure to the Dark World. For whatever reason, the Antipathy did not have the same restraint with Luna, and began affecting her immediately upon exposure.

Icosa

You know, I had so much hope just then that Uma'tama might be gearing up for M+F to do some ambassador work, but uhhh nope just more violence, thanks space kitty

Jayem

A gradual mental change, the extremity of which likely being tied to what emotion they burn. Who’s to bet this is what’s happened to Melpomene? Considering how different she seems to have become I wonder if the cause was her constant disgust at herself paired with the dark world corruption slowly influencing her mind, driving her to more and more horrible decisions. Wasn’t it she herself who said she can barely even recognise herself anymore?

Carter Jessup

Typo- "and there's a good chance something will end up anonymously covering the costs anyway. " something -> someone

Carter Jessup

Holy shit, what an ominous end line there. 'We will make you strong. ' I can't wait to see what that means. Magic roids? Or training? Or Artifacts? And hell yeah! Minerva and Fulgora are going to negotiate with the Dark Rebellion! I cannot wait for that scene.

Divock

"Though considering the base was recently destroyed, I'm at least a little worried about that. Still, it's just… it's not fair. Vertias deserves to have someone." minor spelling error here! Fantastic chapter! The Fulgora/Minerva chapters just keep getting better.

Wensber

Thanks for the chapter!

Jane Shedden

I'm feeling weird about Uma'tama I don't think they're being entirely truthful about the Corruption

Katherine of the Kudzu

Thank you for the chapter! Great work as always!
