I swear to goddess Hannah if you start talking about sparing these people Imma be pretty annoyed. There's only so much altruism I can take. I tend to draw the line at literal kidnapping and torture.

"if you wanna treat us like hostiles we'll do the same." This really shows their mentality is indeed messed up.

Ugh. What a nasty, nasty situation. I won't say that there are *never* situations where torture is the least morally abhorrent course of action available. But I will say that if your go-to strategy is torture, you're probably making a couple of pretty serious ethical mistakes along the way. And the fact that you claim your reason for tying someone up and making them scream in agony is "scientific experiments" or "to save the world"? Doesn't make it not torture. Human beings are way too good at rationalizing being awful to each other. If you're being awful to another sapience, it's worth taking the time to stop and check that you aren't actually just being awful to someone for no good reason. Maybe even stop and check two or three times. And if you build an entire organization dedicated to doing awful things to other sapiences? Ur doin it rong.

Thats actually a VERY good explanation...

Well, apparently the issue is with their link to other worlds, seeing as they're going straight for it. What if the issue was that, as time goes on, the Founder's Kins bring the two worlds they're stuck between closer together somehow, until they collide with catastrophic results? We have : one uprooted World Tree, one continent-sized shard of stone with possibly alien (in the sense that it's not from the World Tree world) technology (the robots) lodged in it, and half its branches on fire. Each could possibly have been done by an apocalyptic portal accident.
