I was going to suggest getting load cells to eliminate the need to estimate shelf weight. But I suspect I'm the only one who would be so concerned...

I'm certain you've already considered this, but I'll mention it to assuage my own fears: Do you know the PSI load limit for your floors? If you're not on a slab (which the wood floor indicates is likely), you will have at least two PSI values for on/off a rafter, and perhaps a third along any load-bearing walls. Typically all that's needed is "bigger feet". I've had to use 1/4" plate steel (6"x6") over 3/4" marine-grade plywood (12"x12") to ensure floor loading limits were met with abundant caution. Edit: Also take into account the deepest flooding possible, and subtract that from the loading limit: It really sucks when a (sprinkler) flood causes an otherwise safe floor to fail under the shelves. Hence the marine-grade plywood.

Tie? Try 5/16" steel Bolted together into one solid piece - and also braced to the cement ceiling joists. This is a Fran project - could it possibly be underengineered???

Got a 10' and 6 ' ladder, in case you're worried. My reach is over 8 feet and no issues with stowing boxes - I get daily practice, if that were not greatly evident.

Also, I realize that Phily ain't earthquake country, you should just for general safety sake tie that shelving together and to the walls.

Looks great. Maybe get yourself a larger step stool, don't want you falling. If you end up leaning on the shelf it could topple. That would be a very bad day. with a larger stool, you will have more stability when you dealing with the upper shelf. But still, great!

Nothing beats a move for getting re-organized and rid of unnecessary stuff. We haven't moved in almost 25 years and I dread the thought. It's a lot of work. Looks awesome and the other post beat me to the comment about the sprinkler heads.

Fran, just a bit of advice. Based on this picture, it looks like you have fire sprinkles in your space. If that is so, you should not have anything closer than 18" to them (the sprinkler head), to prevent possible issues with the fire/sprinkler inspection.
