I'm amazed such a simple trick works so well, even on knobs!

Impressive with the round door knobs. Sleeves of my sweaters are getting stretched using them to grab doorknobs with. :)

Fran Blanche

Just an exercise in tool design - I thought it would be a challenge to make a tool that could grab a round door knob without any moving parts.

Fran Blanche

Yea!

Fran Blanche

I found with this design a compressive grippy material worked best.

Adric Menning

i added a turnbuckle with a ibolt at one end and a hook at the other end. to my keychain, its pretty handy. especcially with my keys on a lanyard around my neck, i can grab a door and open itpretty easy .. not so good on the round nobs as yours. now i want to make a small palm of hand snail. where the antenni are those cloths hooks and the eyes the screws. gonna need a wrist strap or something. but yay.. fun makering.

BobC

I'm hooked!

Travis Snoozy

First comment I saw, literally while thinking the exact same thing. XD

William Alsing

Cool!

BiggieJohn

also, a handy weapon, just in case

I 3d print a tool to do that.

That thing needs a holster!

OzRetrocomp

That's brilliant. Even in non-pandemic times, this device looks like it'd be a huge help to senior citizens and other people that may find operating knobs and handles challenging from a strength perspective.

Darrell Ashby

Excellent Fran!!!👍

Love it! Thanks Fran!

Ewen McNeill

The thing that impresses me about this version is that it actually works on round knobs as well: most of the other versions I’ve seen are limited to pushing/pulling and need more accessible door furniture. Well done! Ewen

Necessity is the mother of invention. Very simple but clever.

Paul Pruss

Tell you what Fran, a lot of folks are "MacGyvers" but you take it to the next level. :-)

Dr Andy Hill

Brilliant, can we have 1 million by next week? Seriously though, Brilliant!

Techmoan

I predict a hundred copies - but this is where it all started.

David Blake

Nice tool and great to see you creating again. Thanks for sharing.

Carol K Stouffer

That's about the cleverest thing I have ever seen.....but then I'm 82 and don't get around much! LOL Great job Fran!

Maybe instead of adding tape to the hooks, two pieces of heat-shrink tube would work also?

Fran Blanche

Well the dirty end never needs to be cleaned - just let it be dirty.

There are a couple companies making devices like this, but I've been quite disappointed by them. The primary issue I've had is that they are usually a keychain type, and the hook is too small to grab many door handles. I don't think yours will have that problem on account of decent size hooks. And all done using inexpensive and readily available parts, love it!

Seems like something that would be awesome to make out of copper, then it'd be naturally antimicrobial too! In addition to its antimicrobial properties, it would also be shiny, if a bit heavy...
