Back To Work
🕑 Added 2020-08-23 20:14:40 +0000 UTCHey everybody! I've been back in the Lab this past week doing the pre-production work on a string of new videos. The picture above is the result of my great summer battery purge - I went through all the battery operated devices in the shop and either put in new batteries or took batteries out for storage. It ended up being a lot of batteries!

I've changed a lot out to dual parallel wired 14500 LiFePO4 3.2v cells as they are cheap, offer similar capacities to LSD NiMh (1200mAh but@3.2v) and don't become unstable if deep discharged. Being 3.2v gives more scope than 2.4v of 2xNiMh in many projects
One thing... get rid of those duracells!! they are a leak waiting to happen and are known to lead. I think even Kirkland batteries are made by duracell and leak too! Use Energizers! They seem to be pretty good at NOT leaking.
So good to see you back!

I try to convert stuff to lithium rechargeable or the low self discharge nickel metal batteries. 14500 as size lithium in series with a AA shorting cell replaced 2 AA batteries in many cases.

I'm making the video for it right now....

I don't get Netflix - so you'll have to enjoy it for me.

The picture you posted on YouTube looks interesting, I've no idea what it is.

What happened? Ran out of batteries for the camera? (just kidding)

I was beginning to get concerned as we hadn't heard from you for a while and now you're back. looking forward to what you've got coming up.
Fran, have you seen the documentary βJohn tries to contact aliensβ on Netflix? That guy has a warehouse of analogue weird stuff and home made equipment that would be a cool

Wot no lithiums? I get free lithium cells from pro-video rental shops that constantly dump bad packs. Several good sizes in the 18650 range. Usually one bad cell kills the pack. Open with care and test. I retrofitted my old LED flashlights with the short ones. Aliexpress sells end extensions for longer cells - case by case. Now I only buy LED lamps that use 18650 type cells. and I use my recovered cells.
