A lot of work for something that seems so trivial now. I'm glad nixie took over. I love nixie clocks!

Fascinating how some engineer's ingenuity leap frogs commercial needs. Thanks, Jerome, and Thanks Fran for reminding us of this.

Rube Goldberg would understand this tube...

Fran Blanche

I thought so, but seeing a few other examples on the interwebs it seems more like a quirk of the design.

This was a unique display thanks for showing us this device. I have seen some Soviet built displays that use a beam of electrons to make a phosphor display glow in several colors on line too. This display functions much like many VFDs that came latter.

Ha, I worked with those! And with Decatrons! OK, only in first year physics lab exercises (45 years ago) where we got to play with ancient equipment, but still...

Hi Fran! Another very interesting post. I know you have a slew of videos (Haven't binge-watched them all yet, despite 2 months of enjoyable viewing!) but have you done one with a tour of your museum? Did you have to relocate as well? Is it open to the public? If I ever get back East I would surely put it on my To-Do list... In the meantime I'll just try catching up on your massive content. Thanks again! Best, -Tom Rose
