I don't have a proper Geiger counter yet (I do have a radiation meter, but it doesn't click). But I'll take any and all opportunities to whip out my thermal camera, so I think that qualifies me as a true geek as well. I even used it once to help a friend look for her missing cat. Found a mouse, no cat, but the cat eventually came home.

I dunno. 2H->He doesn't work, since Helium is actually 2 neutrons and 2 protons.. It's actually more complicated than that. Which is good for us, otherwise stuff would have all fused when the big bang cooled off enough for it. You need hydrogen, but not molecular? When it's fusion time its all going to be ionized anyway. Similarly with the chemisty in space, a lot of hydrogen in space is ionized. I think all the way up to iron can be produced in "normal" fusion for bigger stars. Oxygen makes up like half of rocks. Ok it's a bit less but that sounds more pithy to say it's half. Suppose the rocky planets _are_ pretty tiny if you compare it to stars. Also electrons/etc also "present themselves" as waves in some conditions. Having mass doesn't really have to do with it being quantum. I don't want to like disparage it, though i dunno i would like it to be clear it's not all 100%.. It's good that it looks off the cuff, i guess. (ftr just got a bachelor in physics myself)

From what I understand about chemistry and nuclear physics, your answer to water stars is correct. In fact all of your explanations follow what I know from my own science background.
