Research research and more research. I am always stunned when people comment today in the videos I put up that we must have gotten that 60's tech from crashed UFO's, because of course humans cannot actually figure stuff out on their own through decades of grueling research in materials science and chemistry. Well, if you're one of those kinds of people, them maybe this little film can be the jumping off point for you into the deep rabbit hole that is pure exploratory research. Enjoy!

This was back in the good old days when Experimentalists of any stripe built new apparatus, usually with the help of resident Glass Blowers and Instrument Machinists. I was a bit surprised to see an instrument company name on the mass spec panel. The dude who has resurrected making Nixie Tubes has recreated a very good glass shop from kit he found awaiting disposal. His glassblower’s lathe is a real gem. And he has recovered and mastered mad skillz that died with the production of vacuum tubes.
