Original Camera Reel Of Apollo 12 Aboard The Hornet (1969)

This 16mm reel from my own collection is the original camera footage of the crew of Apollo 12 in the hangar deck of the USS Hornet on November 24, 1969. Silent and shot on Ektachrome, it has some slight light exposure from when it was originally taken out of the camera, and the odd lighting on the carrier (likely a combination of sodium and mercury vapor) has given the film an odd blue/orange color mix. All other copies of this footage that exist were taken from this very reel, which is the sole historical source for this event.

The NASA "official" seen speaking to the crew at 7:09 to 7:44, and seen again at 11:34 to 11:48 (after the end of ceremonies) is George Mueller, who was the Associate Administrator of the Office of Manned Space flight. He is credited with convincing the MSFC team to use the "all-up" method of testing the Saturn V. In Mueller's biography, "Doing the Impossible" (by Arthur Slotkin) the author notes "Mueller went out to the aircraft carrier Hornet, to be on hand when the Apollo 12 crew landed" (p.250).

Obviously the trolls claimed copyright to the silence in the video. They own that for sure. Or maybe it was your very excellent commentary. If I were a troll I would be very jealous about that too!
