Lefty Fountain Pen Trick: Try A Bridge

As a lefty, everything I wrote with smeared until truly fast drying inks and micro tips or good roller balls were invented (and became cheap enough to be part of back to school kits!) The struggle is real!

As a leftie I position my hand under where I am writing, holding the pen so it sticks out more to the top, this way I don't cover what's been written. My real problem, back in the 80s, was as a draughtsman using a drawing board. All vertical text had to be written from the bottom up with the base of the characters to the right. Relatively easy for a right hander, but impossible for me. My solution was to leave all vertical text until last, unpin the drawing sheet, rotate it 90 degrees CW and then do the vertical text horizontally. I welcomed the switch to CAD!

I rebuild and collect Esterbrooks, Parkers and others and I agree that the 51 is a superior pen; I have a few in my collection. IMO, the Meisterstück is the definitive pen for me, I love mine. I am a lefty and for some reason, even though a life-long fountain and dip pen user, never had a problem writing script. I hold them like a right hander and have never had a smear. I'm fortunate because back when I was a kid in the 50s they used to force lefties to use their right hand. I'm ambidextrous but most lefties are.
