Great demonstration! The cable doesn't appear to require solder on the wires at all. I'd cut off the solder mess, then carefully cut the insulation back to expose clean wires. Then it should plug right back in cleanly. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate this procedure.

Here's a quick look at that ribbon cable in mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ1bRouOPXE The point I was trying to make at the end was that if you want the amplitude the generator displays to match the amplitude you see on your scope and you're not using a 50-ohm terminator, then you need to change the output termination setting in that menu.
