VCF 2023 Friday Walkaround
🕑 Added 2023-04-15 17:57:47 +0000 UTCOkay... so we were killing time waiting for the room to open up for our YouTubers Mega Talk, and so I took my little gimble and did a walk though of the vendors that were still setting up for the weekend. I got totally caught up in it all and lost track of time, holding up the whole conference. I ended up getting to the talk and the room was full up and everyone waiting for me. I guess this is why I stay in the Lab and never go out!

Wow! Great vintage stuff! I still have a 1982 NEC PC8801A Z-80 based computer with 64K of memory and dual 5" floppy drives and one of the first RGB monitors available. I went into the basement and it fired right up just as it did 40 years ago. It still reads the floppies with all my programs on them and displays them in a now archaic font that predates the IBM PC font. I don't know how my old computer still works as well as it did decades ago, but I sure did love spending thousands of hours programming it. It could run CP/M or an early version of MS-DOS and had a HUGE library of BASIC language commands burned into ROM. I can still program it like it was yesterday. It may be the only remaining operational NEC computer of its type left in the US. It never sold in any great numbers. The plastic turned from cream to orange as so many of those computers in your video. Not sure why that happens. Chemical breakdown over time? Thanks for the tour Fran. Love that old stuff too!
