What is that thing on her head? At first I thought this was some kind of DIY EEG!

I'm seeing the term STEAM more, adding art to STEM. Maybe today this could be STEAM? Materials science and fashion? Maybe not.

Well, I would definitely have preferred to build a dragster, or even better a rocket ship, if one was available, but that's just me.

I think the battery probably cost more than the whole kit. I wonder how many girls they auditioned for that box cover? I can see where this poor girl would yell at her mother between shots "Mommy! Mommy! It itches. It hurts! Take it off!" Even if it worked, the smell of burning plastic would not be much fun. The motor probably overheated easily. Maybe the follow-up kit "Mattel Happy Fun Arc Welder" fared better using a car battery?

glad you pulled out a real tool! I was thinking "run the plastic tool at 12 volts, unlimited Amps!"

It would be nice to think that the corporate attitudes towards women have changed since the 70s, but here in the UK, at least, I'm afraid to say it hasn't!
