I believe my clock had the same stripped gear that I was able to replace. I'm pretty sure that gear is the same as the one on the Sankyo intermatic mechanism and easy to obtain and replace. Look for an Intermatic TN-311 timer at ace hardware for $10 or Amazon for $16. Should have a very similar rotor and gear that can be made to work.

Well hello there fellow Lumitime collector! I have the green digit version of that same clock and I do love that mechanism. It was I believe the last of the Lumitime clock mechanisms made and I thought they were only in the Japanese market. I have been looking for several years for a other rare Lumitime clock radio with a different shutter mechanism seems to be much more rare.

I bet Randi Rain could help. She replaces broken little gears like this all the time by making molds, touching up the damage, and casting new ones. She's a total pro. No 3D printer I know of can touch the resolution of doing it the old fashioned way like that. Even if you don't reach out, you should totally check out her channel, this kind of mechanism is child's play to her, it's really fascinating.

I would be interested in understanding how it mechanically rolls over from 60 to 00 for the minutes and from 12 to 01, am to pm. Base 10 counters make sense in how they roll over but it kind of blows my mind here since there are so many special cases.

3D print using a resin printer. I'll bet you could get someone to make you a replacement gear. If you reached out Quint BUILDS on YT. He has a resin printer and would probably print you a replacement. Adam Savage might be able to help you.

I wonder how easy it would be to replace the entire motor assembly with a stepper and meshing gear to the mechanism. IT wouldn't be as simple as a synchronous motor, but you could regulate it in software, and be able to show it running. It looks like printing a custom gear to match the digit mechanism would be a lot easier than trying to print a small pinion.

As in all things collectable, the desirability is often determined by the difficulty of finding one. And often by whether it was the first of the type, the aesthetics, the nostalgic desire to have something that was admired or possessed when new and other factors unique for each type of collector.

What was the attraction of this particular model ? It seems quite similar to the previous one, though the shutter mechanism may be different.

Cutting new gears in brass or plastic doesn't seem outside the ability of a good model engineer.

I hope Fran gets that certain 'itch' and decides to fix it somehow and gives it the second life it deserves. They really are fascinating and over the top in sophistication those Lumitime designs. They must have had some mad scientist genius to have conjured up such mechanisms. Quite frankly, we should know their name(s) and a documentary should have been made about this person, or persons behind them.

It's INSANE how many models they have made over the years. I collect Copal bedside clocks and they would maybe have made 1/2 as many as Lumitime. I just wish Lumitime had made 220v 50Hz versions because I'd be all over a few models that have great curves and lines and that groovy mesmerizing light on the side.
